Re: Hahahaha (DZ-Jay)

Can you please help me find the dedicated and complex video, charging and data ports on my Galaxy s2? I've asked around at work but since none of use are Apple shills we're having trouble finding anything except the microUSB/MHL connector.

Future proofing: to add complexity to ensure a device cannot be used in the future?

Unlike Bigjigs, the Island of Sodor has many documented (even captured on video) accidents. Staff ignoring procedures and a culture of cutting corners. There have been multiple run away locos, several bridge collapses, numerous trains hitting buildings and other infrastructure. It's only by the grace of God nobody has been killed.

As you can see they have nothing to differentiate themselves from the existing companies.

We have many application packages where the support company have gone out of business perhaps upto 10 years ago... That does not make the application worthless. Just perhaps difficult to support if something major changes such as the hardware, or other systems the app needs to work with.

The same applies to smart phones. Just because there are no more updates expected, it doesn't mean the phone is worthless. If it still does everything you need, then until the hardware fails, it's still a perfectly usable device.

Sending the old one back to Virginmedia just seemed too much hassle at the time, and waiting for a replacement would have meant days without internet.

Will the RT version support multiple user profiles?

That is my #1 bug-bear with tablets. If I bought one then I'd expect anyone in the family to be able to log onto their own profile - meaning they have access to their photos, their emails, their apps. I wouldn't expect to have to buy one for each person given they replace much of the functionality of a typical home PC.

Re: Fake 3D

"mapping was getting old"

So Apple decided to shake things up a bit. Move a couple of towns, rename some others, or simply remove some from time and space.

If we use your argument that it was getting old and needed changing - isn't it time iOS got re-designed? It looks nearly the same as when it first came out.

Personally, I'd take function over form. An 'old' looking app with correct (or mostly correct) data is useful. A 'shiny' looking app with data that cannot be trusted is worthless as a map. I credit most Apple customers with the inteligence to understand the difference and to demand improvement.

rule 1. Never judge a car on a hire car

My previous car was a 2007 Fiat Bravo with blue&me.

Brilliant system. If there was too much noise for the voice detection to work (you would need to be driving through a roadworks with the windows open) you simply use the menu/enter, up/down and back/esc buttons on the steering wheel. Of course if it was that noisey the person you called couldn't hear you.

The mp3 playing and eco drive worked very well too. The only problem was DRM.

Hellcat

Yes, but you need to read the article.

Fiat's eco:drive is a internet based application. It pulls in data from the vehicle, data on fuel prices and combines them along with other users data on fuel efficiency.

This immediatly makes the article more IT relevent than the next 'a different colour i-product is rumoured to be in development'.

I'm looking forward to the first time I see a Focus in some roadworks, with the driver fighting to get the thing to drive between the cones, and not follow the white lines!

As for the Microsoft embedded software - Fiats and Alfas have it in their Blue&Me and Eco:Drive. In my experience; just like Win7; the embedded system is very reliable. MS look to be putting the terrible days of Win 95-Me (and Vista!) behind them.

Yes, yes I would.

I've had my Blue&me (Microsoft developed) equipped Fiat Bravo for over 3 years now. Works brilliantly with all the phones I've tried. SMS reader is a fantastic feature. I've ran an external 60GB drive full of MP3s from the USB port, and the voice comands work 99% the time.

Blue&me also includes ecodrive which can track your driving style, and helps you to reduce your costs. Took my 45mpg to 60mpg just by driving a little more efficiently. Saves me a fortune and even got a trip to Bologna Motorshow out of it.

The MS app works great, and in my experience is very reliable. Of course if Apple developed software for a car it would only run on 3% of roads that Apple have pre-approved. :)

Hellcat

Yes, yes I would.

I've had a Blue&me (Microsoft developed) equipped Fiat Bravo for over 3 years now. During that time it has been very reliable.

Of course you could pay more and get an Apple based car... but you'll only be able to use it on 3% of the worlds roads.
