Apple boss decries 'data industrial complex' while pocketing, er, billions to hook Google into iOS

The Nazz

Re: He's mostly right

I mostly agree with you and have upvoted accordingly.

From my limited viewing of social media, i find a growing number of people don't bother with anonymity and just flat out use their true name whilst posting downright nasty, offensive and malicious stuff. Possibly because of their selfish need to be heard, overestimating their own importance (if any) to society. eg from todays main BBC News website :

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-45978590

Not that the BBC's relentless agenda helps in any way other formenting such discord and malaise.

Should we be surprised? 1997 - Mr "Education, Education, Education" Blair predates the use of smartphones and widespread use of the internet, his sidekick Brown and the Iraq debacle, hardly set a respectable example.

Any surprise that Mental Health issues are said to be at an all time high.

Should a robo-car run over a kid or a grandad? Healthy or ill person? Let's get millions of folks to decide for AI...

Talking of films ...

I can't recall the details, despite having seen it a few times, but Rita, Sue and Bob Too was funny with a limited screenplay.

More so if you've ever been fortunate (err?) enough to have ever lived in Bradford.

Re: I swore Once

"The point is that swearing CAN be effective when used in moderation."

I still laugh to this day. Many, many years ago, as a recent school leaver, fairly naive, the Director offered me a new role, that of his Sexual Advisor.

"What does that entail" i asked.

"When i want your fucking advice i'll ask for it."

Lesson learned.

Morrisons supermarket: We're taking payroll leak liability fight to UK Supreme Court

The Nazz

What surprises me ...

Is that the request from KPMG for a copy of the entire payroll database wasn't managed at Board level, specifically by the Financial Director ( CFO equivalent) and should have been performed by someone in the Finance and Accounting department, much more senior than Skelton*. Purely for organisational reasons alone. If at all, why on earth KPMG were not made to do their work on the database whilst under complete scrutiny and security at all times baffles me.

*Yesterday's BBC article on this matter described Skelton as a Senior *Internal* Auditor, a different role, and not merely an IT auditor though these days IT functions would make up a large proportion of his work.

From dank memes to Krispy Kremes: British uni eggheads claim viral lol pics make kids fat

The Nazz

Ah i miss the old Polytechnics.*

Doesn't quite explain the *epidemic* of increasing numbers of pre-school kids being obese. Other than their parents, who are more often than not, rolling out the barrel themselves.

On a serious note, i do wish the Gov't, Health Authorities whoever would stop lumping "overweight and obese" together as one category, as in 67% of pre-teens are overweight or obese. There's a huge difference between a BMI of 25.5 and 30+.

I know young kids are generally quite short for their height but something's not right.

Facebook names former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg head of global affairs

The Nazz

Good luck to the guy.

I've never liked him, certainly can't trust him, don't agree with how he pushes *HIS* politics**, and not necessarily those of the former Liberal Dems, but good luck to him, i'd have taken the job also. Not that i'm Cambridge educated, multilingual or open to lucrative lobbying ( ok,maybe that last one, short of my soul though).

But what i've learnt and amazes me, according to the BBC, is that he has been paid public money (presumably as all former deputy prime ministers are)

"he responds that he is a private citizen, and that he has written to the Cabinet Office to ask that the stipend he gets for public work, as a former deputy prime minister, should come to a close when his office in the UK shuts."

re Jellied eel - my how much has changed with the times.

I'll never forget my dad telling me his experience of National Service. He'd just recently got married and was called up for NS and was likely to be sent out to some conflict zone, Aden i think.

On arriving at the range for his field test, he told the RSM "i'm a dreadful shot Sir."

"ne'er mind, have a go with this" and was handed a rifle.

He deliberately aimed high and took out a pigeon.

"Hmmmmm, try again" said the RSM.

This time, he deliberately aimed wide and took out a Fresian cow, hitherto grazing peacefully in the next field.

"I really am a dreadful shot Sir, does that mean i won't be going out to Aden."

"No, it means you won't be coming back again."

Notice the VERY lenient sentence she received? Had there been no CCTV the (wholly) innocent guy may well have been sentenced to eight to twenty years or so.

Here's my theory :

The missing Dark Matter is the *shell* of the universe holding everything else in place. Elastic of course, like a balloon. And possibly quite thick too if the oft mentioned figures of missing mass are to be believed. Though i haven't yet calculated the outer surface area of this shell, so it may not need to be so thick after all.

Re: Copyright Issues

"Porn certainly would not meet the definition of 'useful arts'."

Seriously, the lefty liberal elite and "what's good for you" policy makers should be absolutely delighted with the wide availability of free* porn. Orgasmically so.

Going by the young population around here, certain trends in porn have done much more, much much more to influence that population than Blue Mink ever did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3_MfDYVKlg

*Whilst there is widespread availability of free porn ( notwithstanding the cost of monopolised BT line, or smartphones, and ISP costs) it's arguably even better value to the individual when the Govt. social security tab is picking up the ongoing cost. Causation and all that jizz.
