London's Gatwick airport suspends all flights after 'multiple' reports of drones

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

Re: Christmas conspiracy

Re: Possible detection

"including the HPEM source from Diehl"

Killing it with EMP pulses? on an airfield?

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

Re: drone takes drone

as i keep saying , all of these gung ho solutions involve knowing where the drone is. They dont. what they are combatting is the *threat* of further drone activity - NOT an actual drone buzzing around the airfield.

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

Re: Possible detection

could you save me trawling through your dodgy looking unknown links and just briefly summarise in theory how any system could detect / stop a un-geofenced pre programmed drone?

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

Re: Call a farmer!

"Only trick is getting close enough to the target in the first place."

That , and getting it to even appear - the drone(s) have so far only appeared briefly every hour to ensure grounding continues

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

Re: Genies and bottles

quite - there is no obvious solution to this at this time.

God knows what the huge amounts of police drafted in could possibly be doing.

It kinda reminds me of the Gaza situation with missiles being lobbed over the border.

I guess in the future a drone defence system similar to Isreals Missile defence system may be developed.

IE homing explosive packed intercept drones.

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

I too am intrigued . If the drone was constantly flying around *maybe* they could triangulate ,(then shoot it) but it only pops up every hour or so to guarantee continued closure.

Thats assuming its not on a radio free pre programmed flight.

As it is , with the drone not even flying most of the time , i have a picture in my head of policemen wondering around the airfield , or surrounding streets , hoping to ... well .... god knows

"has to have eyes on the drone"

American bloke hauls US govt into court after border cops 'cuffed him, demanded he unlock his phone at airport'

Re: Just say "Yes Sir"

"Clean laptop and phone"

Why? Because I don't trust anyone, particularly hotel staff. Getting my laptop stolen would be a nightmare for work reasons. Getting my phone stolen might lead to all sorts of identity theft problems I don't want to deal with.

What does that entail exactly? you wipe the phone book? so you cant ring anyone? you remove all work from your work laptop? surely your work laptop is encrypted so if its stolen - no data issue

Phones can also be encypted and not even reusable with a wipe/format to a thief - why not do that?

Farmers use it here to fertilize their crops which is why we only end up with one set of tramlines through fields rather than half the crop chewed up by Jethro driving erratically whilst pissed up on cider.

Prst. V.Jeltz Silver badge

no , seriously , why *do* we need this?

For the military? what do they need 1cm accuracy for over 30 ft accuracy?

Why do the military always get better stuff than the rest of us?

I could use 1cm accuracy for my drone delivery business.

Dont the US already give us military spec GPS? even though I'm sure we can effectively bomb far away people on garmin gps accuracy
