Let's start with the fact that the city in question is named Київ, which is spelt "Kyiv" in the Roman alphabet, and is pronounced "Keev", not Kiev, which comes from the name the Russians gave the city during the Soviet occupation, Киев, because the Russian language has different vowel sounds to Ukrainian. Hint: It's not a Russian city, and has never been ethnically Russian.
