Manjaro 24 is Arch Linux for the rest of us

Lduvall

Manjaro works!

I like Manjaro with XFCE. It works. I would recommend Linux Mint initially for beginners, but when one has the urge to check out other (Arch) versions, Manjaro is a good choice. I can remember one problem following a major update, which was resolved by using Timeshift to go back, and unlike the Windows 10 restore offering, Timeshift actually worked! Win restore has never worked for me, and I have had to try to use it many times. I find that Linux installs faster than Windows, it updates more smoothly than windows, and (lots of other nice things to say about Linux!).

I love the Linux desktop, but that doesn't mean I don't see its problems all too well

When I was working in the US Department of Agriculture I used to frequently walk by the "Linux Team" wing in the South Building. I stopped one time and ask one of the techs about beng able to use Linux on my desktop - I don't recall which outdated version of Windows was on my locked-down work machine, but I used Linux on my personal computers at home. I was told it wasn't going to happen; the reason given was the support burden that would be incurred if Linux was available on USDA desktops.

Why the Linux desktop is the best desktop

"things that work automatically on Windows" until they don't. Last year it took a reinstall of Win10 to get updated to the next version of 10. I had been trying the various 'fixes' to be found on the internet, probably for a year or more, and decided to reinstall after I was coming up on the cut off date for the then version on my machine.

Another 'nice feature' of Windows is that the online instructions, even on the MS support pages, rarely conform with what I see on my screen, when I attempt to follow the online instructions - and quickly have a completely different image on my monitor, and the instructions go off in another (unavailable) direction.

Re: "Linux Desktop"

There are lots of reasons to dislike Windoze. You highlight one of the most obnoxious - arbitrary changes to the user interface, and don't forget changes to the file format (.doc to .docx for example). Simple changes that have simple fixes (usually hidden), or require learning slight but not insignificant changes to the way one does things (right click or left click).
