With Mastodon, decentralization strikes back

The corpse isn't dead but the vultures are already circling

Mere months have passed since twitter refugees with nowhere to flee have entered the fediverse. Now that there are people fleeing in droves there are some who intend to prey on them by creating parallel standards of social media decentralization like Bluesky - funded by VC money - instead of iterating and extending the work and philosophy of ActivityPub like the Spritely Institute.

I believe there won't be long until those who wanted a more friendly experience will move again from the fediverse to the twatterverse. Those who are bombarded daily with toots demanding Quote Retweets by 3-months-old users will applaud the move. Me, I'll be sad to see people trade openness for convenience again, however toxic that might be. Here, take my data.

Infosys must face claims it told recruiter not to hire women with kids 'at home'

I'm Mad As Hell and I'm Not Gonna Take This Anymore!

Nothing new in the land of cold and calculating management. They would only hire eunuchs if they could. That's what they learned to do by the cold, calculating, sexist beasts at Uni that taught them it's fine to do it.

This is not only a jab at management. Most of us working in IT should take our heads out of our bottoms too and realize that for all our talk of inclusiveness there are still deep-rooted prejudices against foreigners, women and older working people. It's time to stop and adopt a more inclusive approach to our colleagues regardless of sex. This is not a white man's job. IT is for many of us the best opportunity to work due to stay-at-home parenting, disabilities or economic reasons and no one should be considered lesser for doing so.

I didn'azi it coming...

... when I was working as an intern refactoring some old code and found out someone was using some verses from Deutschland über alles to test UTF-8 encoding.

I thought it wasn't explicit enough so I took the time to find and replace the string with some verses (I believe) from the north korean anthem. I commited the changes and patted myself for being a sneaky edgelord.

I was disabused of that notion when my team leader called me the next morning to personally explain how git blame worked
