Intel CEO suggests AI can help to create a one-person Unicorn

Redistribution

The fall incomes from those made redundant will provide the return on capital for the Ai investment. A radical alternative would be for Gov's to make employing people less expensive by moving taxation to spending and not employment.

Where is the power coming from

As usual no mention of where the additional power to fast charge is going to come from on how the grid will cope.

UK watchdog blocks Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition

Wrong solution to the problem

These are two American companies and the CMA should not be intervening in the acquisition process. However the CMA has a duty to protect British consumers from monopolies. Therefore a better solution would have been to penalise the new merged entity on the basis of reduced competition. The UK is a sovereign country and we could easily apply a tax to Microsoft which would be disadvantageous to them and advantageous to their competitors thus encouraging competition. That is an effective way to manage monopolies. A similar example would be to stop Amazon bundling prime video with delivery. Or do something about the MasterCard Visa monopoly by making charges transparent.

Instead this decision by the CMA is going to cause problems with one of our major trading partners.

Re: So now the UK is out of the EU...

Its not about funding. Th Uk Gov finds plenty of money to knock up the next set of woke rules, penalise landlords, create daft energy efficiency schemes and raise IR35 cases. What they are unable to do is understand anything relating to British business.

The Great Graph Database Debate: Relational can't do everything

If RDMS are good why is Wordpress such as mess?

I develop a static site generator and we have implemented importing from WordPress and Joomla! from MySQL. Importing from Joomla! was straightforward its mostly normalised and we were easily able to cross-reference and import the data. WordPress on the other hand is a mess. They have everything stuffed into text fields as serialised data which can't be efficient. Furthermore it seems every developer of a WordPress extension creates their own formats.

It seems to me the one weakness of an RDMS is where customisation by third parties is required. Having said that I don't know how this is handled in a graph database.

Financial red tape blamed for London losing Arm IPO

Its all about the money

Related party transactions are generally used by multinationals to transfer profits from one country to another thus minimising tax. Arm has a significant UK presence and worldwide earnings so there is a fair chance it would be liable to a large chunk of UK corporation tax. Corporations typically mitigate this for example Thames water by moving profits offshore through transfer pricing mechanisms i.e. related party transactions many of which are created purely for the purpose of avoiding tax.

Given that Softbank needs the money they probably didn't want to pay the tax that would be associated with the UK listing because they would have to make transactions transparent.

At the end of the day it is the greedy UK government at fault for increasing corporation tax. As Milton Friedman said in reality only people can pay tax.

Re: Will I then be able to disable the sponsored search engines?

So who is going to pay for the development? In order to achieve your goal the browser should be a paid software which I would advocate. The same applies to search and social media. This whole its free but the people are the product has to stop otherwise we will never get a functioning market.

Can I have my borders back

All I want is nice thick borders. The ones that tell you where the edge of one vscode window is overlapping the window underneath. And some sensible font sizes.

Save some money and get a funnel

Or get a funnel drill a hole in the laser cartridge and fill it up with toner. Dead easy, bit messy. Quality goes down a bit after 2 or 3 refills.

Amazon hit with $1bn claim that secretive Buy Box algorithm screws shoppers

Sale of Goods Act

Amazon should always be considered the seller under the sale of goods act in the same way as a shop. This would level the playing field. They should be responsible for the warranty and the delivery and provide support. This copout that they are only a digital storefront is the problem. A simple rule change would resolve it and prevent problems like a Sabrent SSD that I have had to post back to the USA after it failed after three months. Haven't had a reply and I am out of pocket despite claims of a five-year warranty.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel green-lights Mike Lynch's extradition to US to face Autonomy fraud charges

So Rolls-Royce makes jet engines and gives them a way to get a maintenance contract. That's okay.

Autonomy gives away hardware to get the software contract and that's not.

Worse still Amazon gives away free delivery to get prime subscriptions.

UK agrees to extradite Lynch on an unproven criminal charge.

The Germans do not extradite any of the executives found guilty in the diesel gate scandal. The US settled for a massive fine.

None of the above seems fair to me.
