Nvidia ain't done with x86 as it taps Intel Xeons to babysit GPUs

I wonder....

Does it meet Microsoft's minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 yet?

Microsoft dumps AI into Notepad as 'Copilot all the things' mania takes hold in Redmond

Re: More reason

Notepad Next? It seems pretty close.

DarthKegRaider
WTF?

Phew, I'm kind of glad I got addicted to SciTE years ago and is now one of the first things I install when reloading Windows machines.

I am not a fan of the Win11 default notepad now, why would I want to use it with Copilot 'enhancements'.

The way i get around it...

Of the places that have that annoying Defender feature that wants to stop me from running exe files. Open cmd.exe as admin and launch the filename.exe from there. No stupid popup. Yes I am a desktop admin, yet cannot reinstall apps or update drivers so am forced to use workarounds.

WTF?

Instead of paying?

Why don't they employ more teachers to do the jobs better? 4B quid terribly spent yet again

Same brother.... Give me the 2nd hand market for laptops. They run Linux just fine for what I need. Have a free virtual beer on me.

Tesla owners in deep freeze discover the cold, hard truth about EVs

DarthKegRaider

Need to do that in Australia too...

But not for the cold, for the little pricks stealing cars of late. The 10 year old crims wouldn't be able to lift the big lead acid battery into my diesel ute! :)

Raspberry Pi 5 revealed, and it should satisfy your need for speed

Wow, i just got a pi02!!

I have been waiting since the announcement of the Pi02w until 3 days ago when mine finally arrived!! I wanted it for my Retroflag GPi case for smoother GBA and psx emulation, which it does nicely. I wonder how long the backlog will be with this board in real world years?

Re: Old Man Yells At Cloud!

I have a LOT of consumer electronic devices that are still functional, and some even older than the Apple fanboi club. My old Atari 2600 still works fine as a consumer device if that counts?

If more sites had DOOM Captcha then no one would complain!

I recall this little beauty from a few years back, I thought 'el Reg covered it. Maybe I was mistaken...

Re: Passwords

Use Untangle (Arista now), with VPN to access your network. It is one extra step for your users, by opening the VPN first, then use RDP or whatever. Not overly expensive for small business.

Don't have to be educated to be Governor it would seem

I heard about this last week whilst catching up on some security podcasts and found the case to be truly astonishing. Seriously, even kids at primary school would have hacked this page, but, not known what they were looking at. I actually think he may know better, but has reached the point of "Oh bollocks, too late to change direction now", much like the Coyote holding an A.C.M.E. sign.

Re: Eavesdropping bug

Considering you can be talking to you friend/partner about something they/you want to purchase, then within a few hours their facebook/web-browsing adverts are suddenly showing what you were talking about. Without searching the internet previously!!! Now without sounding like I wear a tin-foil hat, it's almost like they record everything now, perhaps 'speech to text' converted, then upload the tiny files to their ML/AI advert-bot. You're not going to notice some text files in your monthly data plans.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s: Impressively average, which is how corporate buyers like it

DarthKegRaider

Preferred the T490s over these

We deployed 40 to our fleet not long ago. The lack of Eth on everything past the T480s is a bit of a pain, especially if you PXE build your fleet laptops. Not so bad if you still have some dongles laying around from the T480s, absolute pain in the ring if you can't find one. I'd rather have a port and not need it than not have a port and need one!

Also, we had a problem with the hard drive filling up after about 10 days or so. Turns out the qualcom modem driver logs were filling the %programdata% entry with "modem not found" messages every few seconds. That was fun, and undocumented on the Lenovo forums.

Good luck buying one though, we were quoted 16 weeks for delivery next order. So, went to a different manufacturer. YMMV however.
