Apple responds to critics of CSAM scan plan with FAQs, says it'd block governments subverting its system

Our phones should be working for us, not against us

Apple could implement an opt-in system to locally scan all photos for CSAM. Instead of reporting them, it would tell you and give you the opportunity to delete them. That would be a much better compromise, although it's still a slippery slope.

Re: My concern

And it allows foreign intelligence agencies to easily frame *anybody* they want. How do we know North Korea or Russia hasn't planted any kiddie porn on UK citizens computers? If you're high profile and very outspoken about a foreign government, be afraid, be very afraid. This is especially frightening after the NSO Group revelations.

Re: Incidentally

Because in many cases we don't actually need the Computer Misuse Act.

Vehicle theft - well that's theft, regardless of how it's done.

The USBKiller - bog standard criminal damage.

Just because it's done using a computer doesn't exempt it from all the usual laws covering crime.

Re: Incidentally

All standard crimes, no need for CMA for any of these. Fraud, incitement, etc..
