Re: That's OK

Remember, what the operators in the control room at Chernobyl did when the computer systems told them to shout down the reactors? Claim your prize if you guessed, 'turn off those computers'.

How the OS/2 flop went on to shape modern software

Thanks for a trip down memory lane

"Planar" LOL I still say it sometimes today at Lenovo (and the youngins look at me like I'm high). We called it a planar because of how the mobos were designed and manufactured in layers or planes. Planes were either power or signal; so if you had a 4S2P planar it had four layers of signaling planes and two power planes. That also brought back the other word that differentiated us from our competitors: 'hard file' instead of the now standard hard drive. The early modern PC development era were some of the best times of my professional life. Just wanna say this is why I love el Reg. Great article with great comments and repartee.

Cisco dumps its Hyperflex hyperconverged infrastructure

Consistency is king

Anyone remember back in 2013/14 when HCI became a thing? Cisco never really committed to it. They showed interest as a founding member of VCE (a short lived JV by VMWare, Cisco and EMC) but were already starting to take their marbles and go home by the time Miguel Dell dropped by Wal Mart and bought EMC back in 2016. I'm a little surprised by this, but I'm old now and my crystal ball needs cleaning.

IBM Software tells workers: Get back to the office three days a week

Show me the actual office I'm returning to

I'm 1000% in support of returning to the office. As soon as there's an actual office to return to. People aren't being asked to return to the office; they're being asked to come back to environments that don't facilitate quiet or private working spaces. They're being asked to come back to setting up their office every day (because the time pissed away driving isn't bollocks enough) and being forced to listen to other team members meetings which is incredibly distracting for some. (Call me Mr. Some). Hell, I'll meet you half way; Give me a dedicated cube in a quad. and I'll be there,

Is it broken yet? Is it? Is it? Ooh that means I can buy a sparkly, new but otherwise hard-to-justify replacement!

I'm sitting here watching the tele which is a 50" 1080i Panasonic MONITOR using COMPONENT inputs from <drum roll> 2005. It simply will. not. fail. It looks marvelous. Brightness and color are absolutely fine. ZERO burn-in artifacts. It gets worse. I have pre-approval from the missus to get whatever my heart desires when the Panny goes titsup. What's the opposite of Father Damien Karras???
