They are not necessarily unique within a Linux instance.

Having worked on filesystem and utilities on Linux and aix, I am pretty darned sure those are the rules and assumptions of *ix software!

Here in Florida, USA, I recently dropped cable and use 4g/LTE ... Better and cheaper! I could get twisted pair service but it's more expensive and at&t is unreliable here.
