PS3 owners game iPlayer

Mark Broadhurst
Thumb Down

Call me old fashioned.

But I watch TV on a TV record shows (up to 3 at a time) on my PVR and play games on my console and I use my PC to program and use iPlayer.

Why would I want to download BBC shows on my console which has a smallish HD (20GB,40GB,60GB,120GB) rather than my PC which has slightly less than 2TB of storage. with Beeb show weighing in at about 800Mb an hour I can't watch much till its full and that's if I haven't got game stuff on my console HD.

Sony, MS want control of PS3, Xbox iPlayer, Beeb boss claims

Mark Broadhurst
Joke

I can just see how this went ?

BBC: We would like to have the iPlayer on your consoles.

Sony & MS: Well its not compatible at the moment.

BBC: So what yours saying is you don't want our content.

Sony & MS: Um well we could probably shoehorn it in but it will look crap and run terribley.

BBC: Thats what Nintendo did with the Wii.

Sony & MS: Yes well our customers expect a bit more than that maybe we can work together and create a solution.

BBC: OMG you want to control it!

As a serious gamer

I support it too.

It makes sense that one media format should be put to the same scrutiny as another.

Unlike most of these reports it was not negative about games in general and asks for sensible goals much like Films are subject to.

MS keeps admins busy with critical Vista patches

Mark Broadhurst
Gates Horns

They arent doing themselves any favours

Is there a reason they couldn't have bundled these in to one critical release which fixes several problems ?

I'm surprised there are no Mac fan boys pointing out their their OS is secure and doesn't need patches. Apparently they like an OS with holes.

Rehash

While it is old news about background apps.

its yet another reason that they would be useful for the iPhone particularly when Apple have got a set of background tasks for their apps.

The problem is not that background apps are not allowed its the double standard about them IMO. If it affects battery life then why should apple have them ? shouldn't the user decide ?

Crumbling Ivory Tower

Macs are coming under as much fire as PC's these days. I guess the its safer on a mac stance was basically because they were largely ignored now they are a contender its not just good attention they are getting.

Ofcom climbs on Byron bandwagon

Mark Broadhurst

I dont see what the problem is

A film style rating on Games would be fine IMO game\console developers could be doing more.

E.g Xbox has the concept of a "child user" and yest still lets that user play 18 rated games. Games like that should not boot for a "child user account" only an "adult user" account.

Thats terrible granted I probably wouldn't want it to pop up while I'm in a call but I'd like it to be there when I'm done.

Part of the problem is that things like Flash are "not up to apple standards" maybe if we were told what apple standards are then maybe people would stand a chance.

Also an Installer.app would be against the T&C's which is why Java pulled out since they wouldn't be able to get around this.

No Browser is 100% Stanard compliant

which is why I don't believe MS will get it to be either but it should be a hell of a lot closer than the previous versions.

Lets face it if there was a browser out there which was 100% standard compliant no one would use it since everything would look "funny" in it.

Mark Broadhurst

Does sony let others make BlueRay now ?

One of the main problems I have with most of sony's tech is that they make great things and then dont let anone else make them.

Take Mini-discs no one but sony could make them and the format died because of it. If Blueray does become "the" format then FFS sony dont keep it to yourselves

Sony screws early adoptors...newsflash

Thats not news

they did it with the PS2 by dropping the price 6 months after launch.

they did it with the PS3 by dropping the price 6 months after launch.

they are doing it with the PSP in order to get people to chuck their old console and try and make them buy a new one.

I'm expecting them to do the same with the PS4 when it arrives in 5 years time.

TBH I think people are learning and next time they have a launch it will flop.

Beeb Doco's

Wild life Documentory's are great its a clasic example of something which costs a fortune to make and will never be profitable but are made by the Beeb because of the unique way its funded. If the way the Beeb was funded changed to a more profit focused way then that would be one of the first things to go. However a good doco does seem to be fewer and further between now a days.

I also think that a lot of money gets wasted on other projects like the web site launching HD channels that less than 1% of people can get too etc.

Conversly I think that TV licencing are stupidly over agressive with their letters and adverts particularly with houses which dont have a TV (yes theres more than you think)

surly if they can flog the phones abroad then theres still a market to steal them ?

Also in the same vein if changing the IMEI is now illigal in the UK then you just have to ship it somewhere and change it there rather than here(where the labour is probally cheaper)

Windows Desktop Search 3.01 for Windows XP (KB917013)

Download size: 4.7 MB , less than 1 minute

Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 3.01 helps you to find, preview, and use your documents, e-mail, music, photos, and other items. On an upgrade from previous versions, you may need to rebuild your index. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Details...

Microsoft dispels rumors of stealth Windows updates

Read the inital blog

Geez you MS haters love jumping on the band wagon.

it says in the blog that Windows update updates its self and he had updates on "Download and dont install" nothing was updated appart from windows update files. it cant download new files with out knowing whats out there.

its like trying to get a file off a server you have no idea where it is and you cant list it.
