Oracle outage hits US Federal health records systems

Re: MUMPS

Indeed. They now have IRIS. It's now Cloud and AI enabled too (you've got to mention AI).

I've not seen the internals of an Intersystems product for years but suspect that, when you peel off the layers, you might find a MUMPS interpreter in there somewhere. I'd actually be disappointed if it wasn't.

In the UK, they made multiple attempts to replace the old MUMPS medical records system with Oracle back in the early 90s....multiple failed attempts. It was still all MUMPS when I left the FHSAs with no sign of anything replacing it.

I see EMIS is still in the GP practices so I suspect they still are using this 58 year old language. No doubt the VA system will be just as difficult to replace too.

If it ain't broke....

Mozilla's Firefox browser turns 20. Does it still matter?

Twenty year old banger?

Suspect his EV won't give him twenty years of service.

Re: Offensive

Exactly!! Wish I could give your comment more than one up vote.

Some must be - otherwise we would not have those words in the language. If you were writing your response sixty years ago you'd probably have included homosexuality in your list too. So, is being 'correct' a function of time?

Why is this even a story?

The Reg used to be about software and computing. It's becoming a political/social justice rag.

There is no outcry. One guy's views don't sit well the views of a few others - wow, isn't that a surprise?
