Intel's open source future in question as exec says he's done carrying the competition

iBurbot

Funny one.

The guy making this announcement has been around in ARM and NXP. I dont know him.

Speaking as a long gone Blue and Green badge ex Inteler, my time at Intel was ffing grim. Waste of time.

Intel were useless - creating new CPU, disbanding the team, then hiring SW people to try and get it working - with no support.

Ive had a quick look at Intels page and I cannot see where Intel are doing anything that would benefit an competitor.

Most of the stuff listed is Intel - and a lot of others - kicking money//Hw into a pot to support development/not be left out.

Or just writing drivers for us own GPUs.

Itel wanted to put an x86 on ao hone.

I know, I worked for them. Wed hear all sorts of crap spounted during the town halls - Atom has produce a low power x86 ... if we project the reduction out 20 years then we will be asss power effeicient asthe current ARM chips ....

It was like being in a fucking madhouse.

They did use ARM for some of their specialist chips, aimed at telecoms.

I have a sneaky suspicion that ARM was used as the specialist cores were so power hungry.

A division had to produced Intel all the way down .was the pitch.

Anyhow, boards arrived, about 12 books of documentation, explaining the new CPU.

Plugged it in, turned in .. barely worked.

Contact chip team. All mvoed on.

Intel has and has alwasy been a lousy CPU designer and maker.

The CPU desings and ISAs are a mess.

The procution and test aer hit too - they produce so much bug riddled junks that its a joke (I worked there).

The only thing that ahs allowed Intel lbundering incomeptnence is the ability to throw large dollops at monet at eerything - fabs, tests, chip designers, etc etc.

Intel will die a death without the free cash to throw at its fuckups.
