Upcoming Outlook for Windows app opens to more testers

On-premise / hosted Exchange services

But does it support non-365 Exchange servers?

The “new” Outlook on Mac does not, which considering it supports IMAP and Gmail natively but not their own, long-standing e-mail servers is very surprising.

AWS wobbles in US East region causing widespread outages

PandyH

Although Amazon are saying to use a regional console to access the management console, you still cannot login.

Accessing the eu-west-2 console gets you a login prompt, followed by an "Internal Error" - looks like at least the authentication all hinges on us-east-1.

What knocked out Brit cloud slinger Memset for the night? A busted fibre cable upstream of its data centre, apparently

PandyH

Only a couple of years ago a fibre cut took out a data centre in St Asaph, somewhere between Manchester and the DC. It was a shock because there were supposed to be 2 redundant routes coming into opposite sides of the building and travelling separate paths arriving on the opposite sides of Manchester.

The DC owner (also an iomart company) found out that the fibre cables were separately routed… until the last couple of miles or so where they traversed the same farmer’s field who had decided to do some ploughing that night…

Even more shocking was they had found this out years before the incident, had asked for it to be re-routed, and believed it had been done.

Azure services fall over in Europe, Microsoft works on fix

PandyH

That’s two outages today

That’s twice today. First outage was around 8am and several MS services were dodgy for about an hour.

This morning it affected the Azure portal, Visual Studio Online (my.visualstudio.com) and docs.microsoft.com.

This afternoon I only noticed the Azure portal falling over.

Both times was DNS-related - the name couldn’t be resolved.

British owners of .eu domains given an extra three months to find a European address

And refund of the fees?

I’m a Brit and my .eu domain was paid up till 2027.

I’m not able to get a refund of the fees for time I’m not able to use as they’ve taken away the service I’ve paid for.

They should have just let them lapse at their natural expiry and not allow them to be renewed if you didn’t meet the requirements.

Brexit freezes 81,000 UK-registered .eu domains – and you've all got three months to get them back

PandyH

I had already transitioned away from my .eu to a .uk domain when this was first reported in 2018, so it’s no biggie my .eu domain has now been revoked.

However due to moving it between providers and paying for years in advance, it wasn’t due to expire until 2027.

Both eurID and my registrar are keeping quiet when I ask them to refund the registry fees for a service they’ve taken away and I won’t be able to use what I’ve paid for.
