French prosecutors link 15-year-old to mega-breach at state’s secure document agency

Re: Kids have lots of time

Kid should be hired while the idiots who left the door open to him, fired. Let's all vote idiots who think like this person I'm replying to out of office; Who think punishing the smart kid is the solution here instead of holding these highly paid government idiots to task. Not taking cyber security seriously enough is a symptom of idiots who don't understand technology calling the shots.

Get F'd dinosaurs. Tired of you getting in the way. Vote em all out. No more dinosaurs.

Anthropic tests how devs react to yanking Claude Code from Pro plan

Test.

We're running a small test. We're trying to see how much bullshit you will swallow while still deciding to pay us. It is a new market after all so we need these metrics to efficiently extract value from our customers.

Using the password 'admin123' wasn't as bad as sharing it on Slack

B33Dub

Really?

That wasn't a terrible ad for Nordic, but maybe next time we try to write a story for the advanced IT crowd, we do a something that isn't so insultingly basic. Like really? A weak password lecture mate? That's your story interesting story this week?

Shoe company says it's getting into AI infrastructure and yes this is the top

Nobody knows how many CVEs Anthropic's Project Glasswing has actually found

B33Dub

It better be impressive. It's already been established LLMs can do this with effort, yet no hackerpocolyose yet. Tired of the bullshit hype roller coaster scaring nitwits. I wont trust a damned word they say if this is just another stunt for their IPO.

Only 28% of AI infrastructure projects fully pay off, survey finds

B33Dub

28% of bullshit

28% of bullshit is still 100% bullshit.

It's like the bullshit "white papers" they keep releasing that claim X% gain in some fantasy metric for the latest AI models.

Like these idiots seriously think they invented a ruler for "cognition" and "intelligence". They have numbers for intangible and metaphysical things. Like we haven't been trying and failing at that with human minds since antiquity. Then they CONFIDENTLY post this crap on socials like they're doing actual science. F off with that bullshit.

Microsoft: Removing some Copilots will improve Windows 11

B33Dub

Amazingly obvious

I feel like the actual talent started steadily marching out the door the moment MS told their software engineers that they were going to be replaced by LLM.

Obviously these C-suite types aren't THAT stupid as to say this out loud to anyone's face, but the problem with programmers in general is that they tend to be fairly smart individuals. Especially those that made it through MS's HR checklists.

Now, I'm not the sharpest of my peers, but I did the mental math on ALL of this in about 30 seconds 2 or so years ago when this crap started pushing for mainstream. I suspect the body of programmers at MS did the very same when Slopya told them to use Co-Pilot or quit. Days are numbered.

Luckily for me, I work for people who aren't greedy idiots so there was no AI mandate. I imagine if there was, I would be doing very very little to prove that the technology set to replace me actually succeeds in doing so.

Junior disobeyed orders and tried untested feature during a live robot demo

B33Dub

Re: The junior kept his job.

Legit. Where I work, the stakes are extremely low compared to any of this, but still being a SWE is a position of trust. We can F a great number of ppl's days/weeks with errant code on accident. If you can't trust nitwit to do what they are told, you cant trust them to not be malicious when it suits them either so... Bye bye untrustworthy scrum. I'd have fired this guy into the sun.

Linux Foundation kicks off effort to shield FOSS maintainers from AI slop bug reports

B33Dub

Thanks I guess?

Big tech just spent about 2 years shitting on us (programmers) to sell their slop generators to idiot "though leaders" and CEOs to replace us at our real jobs, so thanks for actually putting some money towards the damage somewhere else I guess... I mean it's only because they don't want to lose the free FOSS labor to the massive backlash going on in response to all that, but it is something at least.

Hearing about these nitwits figuring out basic http problems while claiming to be the standard on development processes is a bit comical. Even more so as they flush human engineering ability out for lazy film flam Eh Eye.

Their embrace of it is also ironic considering their product's focus is about marshalling humans to do the same work.

Of course, they already laid off their marketing department for similar greedy reasons so it's not surprising no one is home to notice the tone deaf messaging here.

Server crashes traced to one very literal knee-jerk reaction

B33Dub

Re: Logs

A reset button wouldn't be logged in any way back then. There was no ACPI to negotiate with or notify the system of the impending power loss. The reset button simply interrupted power to the whole computer without notice. As far as the "logs" are concerned, all is normal and then the power is gone.

Logging was also much more sparse back then as we didn't have effectively "infinite" storage to store it all as we do now.

I do believe that's the end game here. Real people with jobs and money needing AI to wipe their ass to get through the day. Obviously not literally.

Get the population dumber and more dependent. Already proven this happens. The Social Media of the next generation is here, except now they can cut out all those expensive and annoyingly humanist content creators and their unprofitable opinions and royalties this time. Just feed the masses slop generated from their work for free, call it "fair use", and tune it to whatever idea or angle you're being paid to push this week. Print money.

Probably not helping the blood in the water over dogfooding Co-Pilot either. After a year of enduring the threat of being replaced by this crap, a movement spearheaded by MS and their GitHub, the pendulum is swinging back hard. Every tiny bug in Windows will be blamed on AI slop and every weary developer whose had to put up with this crap will make sure Joe User knows to blame AI and Microsoft for it.

The evolution of C#: Lead designer describes modernization journey, breaks it down about getting func-y

B33Dub

C# Love

Of all the languages I have to work with, C# is by the far funnest. I don't mind a challenge but here's an anecdote.

I occasionally find myself working with Java and its like...

Me: Ok I got this moderately complicated thing to do here, and I'd like to respect some OOP principals here. How do we do this?

Java: LOL. I'll need about 20 interfaces and your soul.

Me: Hmmm... I'll need some logic controlled "properties" on some of my objects. Can you handle that?

Java: WTF is a "property"? I only got "fields". Just kidding I know what it is I just don't care. Yea I'll be needing some methods for that. Its ok, like our entire ecosystem has a naming convention and YOU BETTER GET IT RIGHT, like its "get" and "set" before methods, but in the case of booleans its like ... who knows? "is"? LOL. Good luck bitch. Fuck you we'll never express it in language. Muwahahahahaha.

Me: Seems like a pain in the ass. Ok can I import some good repositories to make this simpler.

Java: LOL fool, don't get me started. Good luck finding the packages you need to get things done. Hope you know what exact ecosystem you're working with because there's like SO many repositories. Make sure you got the right platform X architecture X operating system X phase of the moon. Also, make sure you don't typo anything because the hackers LOVE preying on moron programmers like YOU and no one cares about rooting out the bad actors. Bwahahahahahaha,

...

Meanwhile, in C# land

Me: Good lord, what is that 78 character generic type signature that this method is returning where I only need to store a MERE reference to it real quick?

C#: No worries bro, just declare it as "var" and I'll infer that nonsense. Also, you can kinda use this to not worry about minor code changes in the future ;)

Me: Hmm, need to do a call back. Time to declare an interfa ...

C#: Hold on sir. Its fine. Just use the Action or Func types as argument types. One of those is surely ready to suit your needs and you can use a lambda for something anonymous or directly reference an existing member on any accessible class.

Me: Great. This method needs an options object. Time to new it up and assign properties one by one.

C#: There is an easier way bro. Pass the the object as new in the argument and use curly braces to set all of its fields (properties). Doesn't really change what's going on but its much more readable and concise than the alternative.

(I could literally go on here about how C# makes most annoyances of OOP easier here, but I will cut it off).

And then don't get me started when you add .Net Core into the mix.
