Carphone Warehouse now taking iPhone 3G orders

CPW issues

A poster from a forum i frequent had the following to say

--

Just a heads up, currently on the phone to CarphoneWarehouse customer services. There is an issue with all web orders and I have been told there will almost be no chance of my iphone being delivered tomorrow.

I have been advised all I can do is to order again tomorrow with the direct sales team for delivery on Monday Not happy and currently on hold trying to get more information and sort something out.

--

So if you've placed an order with CPW I'd imagine it might be worthwhile ringing up to confirm.

It did seem strange that they sold out and then stuck more handsets online when O2 didn't have any left...

BBC must reveal EastEnders costs

Danny Traynor

You've got to ask yourselves

If you had the choice of saving ten quid a month and not having access to BBC1, 2, HD, all the digital channels, all the BBC productions shown on other channels such as Discovery etc, bbc.co.uk, iplayer, Live news from journalists around the world, coverage of F1, Tennis, Football, Rugby, elections, etc would you *really* keep the money?

Personally, I think the BBC represents superb value, even if I don't watch EE.

The iPhone - yours for €1

Danny Traynor

Why?

do people consistently point out that the iPhone costs £800 etc over 18 months when this is the way mobile phone contracts HAVE ALWAYS worked?

You get a subsidised phone. The amount of that subsidy depends on how much you pay the network provider monthly over a fixed period of time, I mean ffs, EVERY phone I've ever owner has been purchased under this model. The iPhone doesn't cost £800 over 18 months. In case you hadn't realised, you do actually get service within that period. Get over yourselves already!

Apple's 3G iPhone to launch 11 July

Danny Traynor

@Bryan

As above, it DOES have GPS hardware in it.

TomTom have already stated that they have their software running on an iPhone. If GoogleMaps isn't usable for point to point directions (and I can't really see why it wouldn't be) then there's a pay for option there - my guess is it'll be ready to go next month when the AppStore goes live.

Unbundling could cost you £125

Danny Traynor
Thumb Down

Re:Spellchecking is not proofreading.

"What they don't tell you if to a fully unbundled service is that it you could end up being stung with a £125 charge."

"If to"? How can you read that sentence and not have that jump out at you as obviously garbled? Sure, both of those words are spelled correctly, but they don't make any damn sense. You meant "IS THAT", not "IF TO".

Yes, because,

"What they don't tell you is that a fully unbundled service is that it you could end up being stung with a £125 charge."

make perfect sense.

As it's his company it's quite correct that it should be up to him whether or not smoking is allowed, or even mandatory!, on HIS company premises. If only other countries would allow their citizens the choice.

Researcher: 'Second wave' HD adopters favour HD DVD

Danny Traynor

Discs

Bluray discs ARE available at Blockbuster in (England at least) and I can rent both HD-DVD and Bluray titles from lovefilm. I have both players and can't really choose between them for quality. Also, I like to buy my films whether I'll watch them once or not. I'd much rather pay 13quid for a physical disk than a fiver for a 'HD' download which will expire in 24 hours whether I've finished watching it or not.

Wii buyers follow French Connection for consoles

Danny Traynor

What's all the fuss about?

I dunno what the problem is? I was asked on Friday to buy a DS for my wifes mums xmas pressie, got one on tinterweb for retail, was delivered yesterday. Asked to get a Wii yesterday for someone, again, bought one at retail on the internet which is being packed as we speak. These are UK consoles. If people bothered to actually look about rather than rushing in all guns blazing there'd be no need to be so seriously out of pocket. Having said that, they did both take a risk leaving it a bit late!

Alert

Alright already.

I have to wonder why, every time there's an iPhone article the same old hats come out and bash it EVERY time.

We get it! You don't like it! You prefer your WM or S60 device more! You have to send the funny picture of that bloke being sick outside the pub immediately to everyone you know!

DON'T BUY ONE! Just get over it. In the spirit of Christmas, live and let live!!

Admit it though, deep deep down inside, you really, really want one but it just ain't cool to like Apple ;)

iPhone tops mobile browsing charts

Danny Traynor
Thumb Up

Comment title required...

I've had loads of mobiles over the years and have never felt the need to pay for mobile data as none of them have been devices that I WANTED to use. Slow, cumbersome browsing doesn't appeal. Now though, I use my iPhone everyday. Generally in hotspots but also when I'm stuck in traffic (and the wifes driving of course (100mile a day commute). I love it. I'm also never bored now when I'm forced to go and stand outside a drinking establishment in order to have a smoke. Wouldn't trade it for anything (apart from iPhone v.2 with 3g ;) )

Free Laptop with Orange

Was in PC World recently with a mate who's just moved into his own flat and wanted a computer and broadband. Was happy with the 2gb Orange service so we went to look at the laptops. PCWorld had on display a machine that I was sure would be suitable for his needs and was only £50 on top of the Orange contract. Needless to say, that machine wasn't in stock but they did have 'this other one over here' which was £80 extra and had a higher model number.

Said friend would have bought it on the spot but the helpful member of staff forgot to mention that it had

a) half the amount of ram (and running Vista as well, mental!)

b) had a slower processor

c) had a smaller harddrive (40gb vs 80gb)

We were told in no uncertain terms that the higher spec laptop would never be back in stock (if indeed, it ever was in stock) and we'd have to buy this one.

Anyway, we went next door and bought the higher spec one for the advertised price. I'll never shop there again, bunch of bloody chancers the lot of them.
