Alarm raised over Mozilla VPN: Wonky authorization check lets users cause havoc

Re: Does anyone take this seriously?

> "Get this picture of yourself on the dashboard, and I might pay you"...Needless to say, his database was absolutely chock full of that particular image within about 10 minutes, and because of the way his crawlers followed links, I had 6 out of his 8 crawlers looping around a page I set up constantly ingesting the image he sent me.

This is epic. Unfortunate the egomaniac guy is still around causing damage :(

Windows as a rolling os.

Because it went so well for Cisco to move to an agile, mvp, feature centric development model...

Chuck, you and the other MBAs in your company have been totally disconnected from the reality for quite some time. What customers want is quality code, quality products, simple licensing, competent tech support, simplicity and a return of the safe harbor program.

All of this was already there, and has been steadily dismantled by your obsession for profit at all costs.

And for the love of god, kill Firepower already.

So... Brainless?

Work life balance? We've heard of it. Pandemic means 9-5 shifts are a thing of the past for many

Re: They try to flog us donkeys 24/7

Well, maybe it's a sad mental state, yet sometimes it's necessary as many companies only get money talk. I definitely, like you, don't live for the money, yet that's very much quantifiable for both parties.

By the way, I wrote "pay my time", and by that I meant pay compensation. It does not necessarily mean I should get paid money, I'm fine with other perks as long as you compensate me. Compensation is key. No compensation, no extra work.

Re: They try to flog us donkeys 24/7

Same. I'm 36, considered "senior" and I do the same. I'm surprised my colleagues still fall into the trap of working extra hours with no compensation.

"But I like it" "but it's my passion" "but I need to work extra else work piles up" are not valid reasons to willingly accept exploitation.

Companies work for profit, full stop. They don't provide ping pong and candies because they love their employees, no. They do because it's cheaper and easier for convincing them to work extra.

So yeah, a pat on the back is nice when I work extra, but gets old quickly. Pay my time, it's as worthy as yours.

Re: GNOME Shell

Mac OS is possibly the OS with the most solid implementation: different dpis per screen in multiscreen mode? No issue.

Only one screen, hidpi? No issue. Detach low dpi screen and use hidpi retina screen? No issue.

All smooth and painless.

Now, Linux (x11) or windows? Good luck: apps that become blurry and need restarting, inconsistencies in the gui, artifacts of all kinds. I could go on.

A megacorp doing only what's legally required and ignoring ethics and good behavior? I'm shocked.

Sailfish floats v3.4 'Pallas-Yllästunturi', its latest Jolla good reason for itchy-fingered Android and Apple swervers

Rilik

A praise to Jolla and sailfish for bringing something new to the table and for fighting the duopoly.

I owned a Jolla 1 for four years. Although far from ground breaking, the device was pretty fine with the possibility to install hw modules.

That was not the only idea far ahead of its time: the whole os was gesture based from the start, with nifty ux features such as "release to activate buttons" and remorse timers, something still absent nowadays in the major mobile OSes.

I guess the lack of hw support, the already huge dominance of Android and ios and the steep curve to develop apps (c++/qml) made the rest.

Still, what they did with such a small team is remarkable. Glad to see the dream living on.

It's 2020 so not only is your mouse config tool a Node.JS Electron app, it's also pwnable by an evil webpage

Facepalm

Electron, as stated before, is a "developers first, users later" framework. It allows rapid development thanks to its reliance on such an accessible language as Javascript.

End of the story. It's not for elegant applications, it's not for secure applications. It's the product of the ship fast fix later (maybe) mentality the folks in silicon Valley gifted us with.
