Emissions-slashing hybrid trains to hit tracks in Europe

SpamuelBeckett

Meseryrail's new trains will be able to switch from third rail (as one of the only networks to still use one), battery (about 20 mile range) and a pantograph.

Network Rail will not allow any new third rail lines so this is why they've done this.

They will be making the switch while on the line. For example a potential Liverpool to Preston line. They'll run on the third rail all the way to Ormskirk, before switching to battery to get to the Penwortham triangle where they can extend the pantograph, using them to power all the way into Preston while also charging the battery. Before doing the opposite on the way back out.

Northern Rail should be running to the bank to buy these hybrid trains.

"What part of "cow town" did you not understand?"

I'm probably not going to be the only one to say, all of it. Cow town probably isn't as ubiquitous as you think it is.

Re: Deja vu again

"The problem is disposal! These batteries are expensive to dispose of! Do you really think Joe-Bob at the junk yard has the capabilities to dispose of the battery? Do you think he's going to pay $1000's to dispose of the batteries in a car that was dropped off to him? No, he'll do what this guy did, just stash it on the yard!"

He'll be miffed then at paying a fine after not disposing of batteries properly.

Batteries can be recycled perfectly fine if removed from a vehicle and repurposed in to all sorts of uses.

Just because hick scrapyard owners want to do jobs badly doesn't mean we should continue to use ICE, where I presume they're already not bothering to dispose of Asbestos, fuels and oils appropriately.

Microsoft: You own the best software keyboard there is. Please let us buy it

I remember buying Swype back in the day, I really enjoyed it, but when Gboard gained similar functionality I dont think i reinstalled it when moving to a new phone.

Might give it another shot.

If you've bought it, you need to go to your purchases and you can navigate to it there. I had to scroll all the way back to July 2013!

Re: A fix for this

"Or paying a subscription to watch streaming services without adverts"

Bless you for thinking that.

Amazon Prime shoves adverts for other Prime stuff you have to subscribe or buy to in order to watch.

Disney+ also advertise movies that need you to pay a fee too.

Now TV also shows normal adverts for any sort of items.

Netflix is the best really for no adverts, but thats not going to last forever, especially if people are already stating "without adverts" when quantifiably that is nonsense.
