Audacity is a poster child for what can be achieved with open-source software

six_tymes

well said, so I'll ask, now that it has been bought out, do you believe it will remain free of DRM, telemetry and adverts ?? I doubt it, especially considering the way the new owner comes off, he sounds like a bs'ing salesman. I give it one year at most, then, it'll have adverts, DRM, and telemetry. Bye bye Audacity.

There are a lot of people out there who'd like to fire Jeff Bezos into space – but he's doing the honours himself

six_tymes

Re: Over to you, Jeff

He's a democrat, all are hypocrites. The last good ones (not hypocrites) were the Kennedy brothers, and as you know both were murdered. But both cared for people and not their billions of $ like bezos and winfrey and her billions for example.

to be fair, CJ Moore is a regulator of sorts. And, I am sure he did not like Elons tweet. That said, L5 has not been released yet, and there is no guarantee it will be any time soon. Elon's statement reads like it implies that it will, but, he never said guaranteed. Maybe Elon will revaluate advancements by the end of the year and say differently, doing so would not be unusual, that happens often with new technologies. I ignore the hate fest.

New Jersey blames Microsoft for weeks of outages, glitches plaguing coronavirus vaccine sign-up website

'Best tech employer of the year' threatened trainee with £15k penalty fee for quitting to look after his sick mum

six_tymes

iv'e had similar done to me many years ago when I worked for federal express. I had the flu with a fever of 102.7 degrees, so i called out and went to the doctor, he gave prescriptions and told me I had "walking phenomena, and was dangerous"that I should not work for at least one week.I asked the doctor to write a letter of that so I could provide to my manager when I went back to work, after a week off, I was still sick but went back to work anyway, one week after that I started to feel better, and got called in to my managers office, she handed me a letter stating that I would be "let go" if I called out again, and that I was on "probation" and had to sign the letter. I worked for them for 4.5 years and only was 15 minutes late once, and called out only once before (for one day). Two weeks after that incident I quit. Another job, of 15 years, recently while my mother was dying, I asked to take off for a week to go see her, she lived far in another state, they made me go to HR prior to leaving for the week and write a letter of intent and sign it as to why I was taking off without pay. I was in tears writing that letter, shit media company well known in the US. Most people fault companies, it's the shit people that work there, I have found many higher up the ladder often do not know how bad managers and HR people treat employees.

'Long-standing vulns' in 5G protocols open the door for attacks on smartphone users

six_tymes

I read an article on another site, it was last year, it said that mobile security wont become truly secure until 6G. apparently 5G just does not have the proper protocols in place. another site said Samsung has already started r&d on 6G in late 2018. 2026 is the current target year for 6G roll out.

Microsoft is designing its own Arm-based data-center server, PC chips – report

six_tymes

arm arm arm, amd amd amd... meh. Intel has and still does make the most stable and advanced procs and chipsets. so their business gets cut in half or more, that's business, and its happened to many before. I for one just want to be able to build one more workstation before my time is up using Intel when they have DDR5 platform on the upcoming socket 1700 for consumers. I'll be happy. Regarding Intel business strategy in the past decade, them making bad, late and no decisions, all fault lies with the previous ceo, he was busy getting his noddle wet and not working and staying on top of decision making. His lack of leadership is why the company has been behind with many issues. They also should have bought out arm many many years ago when they had the chance to, they were thinking about it, and did nothing. I hope we dont see them go out. If we do, amd will be the next "chipzialla" and they make crap half the time, buggy drivers, unstable chipsets, and dont get me started on the bulldozer BS, they lied to customers on core count and performance. I used to be a fan of amd, but after bull s bulldozer, I got burned. and their procs run HOT as hell.
