Does the new XFCE default theme still have default 1 pixel to resize the window?

"we'd advise using a wired Ethernet connection for the upgrade, rather than wireless"

The 00s called and want their tech support back.

How many laptops have an ethernet connection these days?

Google gamed into advertising a malicious version of Authenticator

This is just the tip of the iceburg. Most apps are now riddled with adverts. And a lot of these ads are official looking scams. From the ones I get presented with its clear Google does little to no checking on what is shown in banner adds in apps through Googles own ad service. Joe Public does not stand a chance.

Re: Still Waiting for Derry Girls DVD

With disk space being relatively cheap the MakeMKV step is enough and gives you a perfect copy of the DVD or BluRay.

Sure HandBrake can give you a smaller HEVC copy of almost as good quality if you are careful with settings. Pay careful attention to fast moving scenes especially ones with fire in. But then you are into a world of compatability issues with diferent players. I have found that Kodi (CoreElec for me) has issues with seeking and fast forwarding of HEVC files.

How to get Linux onto a non-approved laptop

Re: Old linux person here....do not understand......

SSD disk space is neither abundant or cheap. A lot of laptops come with a small SSD drive expecting us to use the cloud. How big is Windows OS these days?

On my Lenovo Yoga I blew Windows away and installed Ubuntu with full disk encryption. Biggest issue was the new sleep modes. Gave up and went for hibernation instead, uses no power and still starts pretty quickly. Though not sleep-wake instant on.

Samsung updates its most popular smartphone range

Re: Dear Samsung.

Ah sorry, missed that requirement.

I used to prefer removable batteries, but found a rechargeable battery pack more practical. With removable batteries I was often left with two empty batteries, and need the phone to charge them.

How many Brits have deleted life-saving track and trace app from their phones? No idea, junior minister tells MPs

Google Play Analytics

The Google Play Console available to a developer of an app gives a huge amount of analytical information on apps useage. Especially installs, uninstalls and activity.

Although it wouldn't be able to tell if app active but Bluetooth disabled. That said if you do this the Covid app gives persistent notifications. In which case most people just delete it.

Motorola bounds out the G8 with a harder, better, faster smartphone for the thrifty

Not progress

Hmmmm

Moto G8 = HD+ (1560×720) - 269 ppi

Moto G7 = 1080 x 2270 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~405 ppi density)

Moto G4 = Full HD 1920x1080 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~401 ppi density)

Given the G8 is bigger as well, those pixels are really going to stand out.

I guess there must be a market for heavy long phones with poor resolution that are worse than the previous versions of over 4 years ago.

The G8 Power sells for £219, this G8 with those specs is going to need to sell well under £200 especially if you look at the rivals.
