British troops to wear smart earplugs in Afghan combat

@Madness

"How on earth can they continue to allow bullets, grenades and bombs etc"

They are essential parts of war, just, unjust or otherwise. You could throw flower petals, but they would lack a certain impact.

Luckily, not every soldier in a firefight gets killed/injured. But they all shoot their guns, and if you can protect them from hearing damage/tinnitus, without hindering their capability to operate, why would you begrudge them that? Money well spent!

Mine's the one with the ringing ears, not kidding

@What does resolution mean?

Spatial resolution means the size of the pixel on the ground. In that pixel you will have part of the line and part of the tarmac, giving you a mixed pixel. Depending on how much the line makes up you will see any level of white to grey. You can make it out as a line because you have consecutive pixels being partly/mostly white, even though the line is < 0.41 and our brain is quite good at seeing what it wants to see on a car park.

In order to definitely make out an object it has to be 1.5x spatial resolution. Those are then massive boobies indeed.

Essential addons

the mini dock [and battery dock] come with mains adapters [with UK, EU, US plugs], so quick recharge, if you need it, only costs 29.99€ for the mini dock and 49.99€ for the battery dock. [i'd go for the battery dock, acts like an extra battery and is easy to carry in your bag when travelling]

i've had the 604 and now the 605, and never needed the MP4 or vob plug-ins, so i appreciate not having to pay for them. some people might not need the web browser, so why should they pay for it?

the archos pricing needs some getting used to, but i find the pricing model useful. you only pay for what you need, not what marketing think people need [apple anyone?]
