Headset hype meets harsh reality as Apple and Meta VR shipments fizzle in 2025

Re: Memory failure

The Hololens display was pretty unusable, as are all current transparent HMDs (rainbowing, stutter separation, washout, not to mention the tiny render area and inabilty to render black).

The Quest and AVP have a much better basic build for developing on, they could do with slimming down but the single biggest issues for me are the OS and software - AVP has none whilst the Quest is drowning in junk apps.

And nobody, I repeat nobody wants to use VR instead of having a a video call at work.

Re: The need to justify the incredible spend that M$ and others have made on this bauble

It's like how my company gets thousands in MS credits as long as we use their AI tools... we periodically spin them up and have them do nothing but waste processor cycles, which lets our account manager hit their adoption targets and lets us keep using Azure for free.

Reminds me of the time

I registered thenameofyoursitehere.com and created favicon.ico with a rather rude word on it.

Re: not quite

I'm half of this opinion, but then I remember the internet hasn't been around for long, so what's the analogue equivalent?

Is there any situation in which I could distribute lies or hateful messages on paper without being held accountable?

Groundhog Day

Years ago when I first saw the whale video I thought "Well this is... fishy".

I've had to be the grumpy one in too many meetings pointing out why this product can't do what the adverts claim (MS I'm looking at you too).

When this company finally goes bust I have a thousand Michael Scott 'Thank You' GIFs to mail out.

Oh dear... AI models used to flag hate speech online are, er, racist against black people

Is it just flagging keywords?

Surely any AI trying to determine 'offensiveness' would need at least the entire context of the conversation and who it's with.

If I spoke to my stuffy great aunt the way I talked to my hometown friends she'd be pretty offended.

Conversely, I can say some pretty awful things without using a single bad word.

Adobe results show it is still creaming those subscriptions but its share price fell – why?

Cookie monsters

I had Creative Cloud but didn't use it a whole lot. Last time they asked me to update my card details I spent 5 minutes trying to not accept ad cookies on their site, gave up and cancelled my subscription
