"What we want is access to gigabit speeds at acceptable economics."
That's a bot right there.

The DVLA are not going to get involved - they deal with licenses and vehicle registration. Asking them to deal with registration and deregistration of user accounts is a long way outside their job description. It would be like asking them to manage your photos of the car on Facebook.
The GDPR is the way to go here. The car industry GREATLY prefers self-regulation (see, for example, the industry's initiative to introduce speed limiters which kick-in at a "sensible" 250kmh). So the best bet is to make them feel like some authority is going to get involved and let them sort it themselves in a hurry.
The issue that the author is highlighting is presumably that the imbalance in gender at Amazon is due to tacit discrimination on the part of hirers.
By starting an email in the highlighted manner, Amazon is saying "we're interested in hiring you solely because of your gender, because we feel we have to" which is a little insulting for someone who may well be the most qualified person for the job and implies that the root issue (the discrimination) is actively being ignored.
I'm not offering any solutions here, you may have noticed. Whatever the solution is it's going to involve a lot of compromises and a few deadends. But Amazon's approach here is clearly wide of the mark.
Or what?
Basically, you've gone out and bought a product, paid over the odds and now you've been had. You feel like a safety net, guinea pig and a chump. Why? Because you got swept away by how wonderful the dream of owning this device was.
You have no rights to claim anything back from Apple, live with the disappointment.
