Maybe the wording of the contracts would clarify it.
They are not Taxi's in the UK sense. You get get into a taxi anyway and pay a fixed rate.
They really are minicabs. The ride is booked and price (should) be roughly agreed in advance. So they should be licenced as such.
As for employed / self employed, The way I look at it, if they are free to swap "employers" at will, then I would of thought they could be classed as self employed. However, if there is non-compete clauses, or you are penalised for not working for them, then they are employed.

Let's take a famous leftie commute I know of.
He was born to an unmarried couple who lived together. However, she became pregnant by another man. He was born a bastard child.
Not much is known of his early childhood, but he grew up tall and proud.
He fought for people's rights, even rioting and smashing up peoples shops, causing criminal damage, something that put him on the wrong side of the law.
He once went off to be alone, to find himself, before returning and spending the rest of his life in close company with a group of unmarried men and a prostitute.
Sadly, for all the crimes he committed against the state, a reward was offered and he was sold out by one of his friends to the state police.
He was executed, still standing up for the social rights and freedoms he believed in.
Just can't remember his name.

Also, countries are reporting deaths in differentways.
I know of two deaths of "Covid19" personally.
One person (87) was raced into hospital after collapsing with an exiting complication of pneumonia. Whilst in hospital (on life support) contracted Covid19. A few days later. Cause if death? Covid19.
The other case was a terminally ill patient suffering a brain tumour. He had stopped receiving treatment and was effectively under palliative care. Caught Covid19. Cause of death? Covid19 of course.
Germany and China have just had two local flare ups, so it's not like it's gone away in those.
Then, of course, you gave the likes of Brazil, that apparently hardly have it and Tanzania where it was cured by the President praying.

I'm more environmental friendly than fairphone.
I always buy second hand.
Currently using an ancient P10 lite I bought second hand, kids have 2nd hand iPhones, I have second-hand iPads.
Only this phone is showing its age. Going to replace with a P20pro or P30pro. Second hand if course.
Likes of MusicMagpie and CEX offer quality phones at a fraction of the price of new.
Do I care if it has the latest bloat? Not really.
But still, can the rich and gullible keeping upgrading, we need the used phones.

I just get on with life and whatever happens, happens. Lived with the threat of terrorist attacks all my life, still more likely to get hit by a car because I'm to busy looking at the phone.

Sorry but I partly agree with OP.
I was educated in the 70s.
The only thing I measure in imperial is miles/mpg.
That is simply down to the fact that signs are in miles/yards and odometers are also in miles. No other reason.
I couldn't tell you how many ounces are in a pound; pounds in a stone and stones in a whatever. Inches in a yard or yards in a mile.

Not really. I (did?) handle V8 and V12 blocks all the time (think up to 40 a day). As we have to lift flip and rotate them, they have to be worked using an overhead crane. This probably adds about 25% to the working time. Having an extra 28kg of lift would mean 80% of tasks would no longer require the hoist.

Oh here we go. Let's get some history straightened.
The US ONLY entered WW2 after Japan attacked AND Germany declared war.
The only reason the US decided to sell us a large amount of arms was we passed decrypted information that Germany was encouraging Mexico to attack Texas.
After WW2 you pretty quickly asked for your money back, and it wasn't until we said we would pull out of the likes of Italy and Greece that were heavily leaning to the far left and Communism did you crap yourselves.
Only the USA came out of WW2 with far more money than went in.
Then how about Korea, Vietnam and the two gulf wars which we helped you out in? The US was at no risk of attack but many European states still came to your aid.
The reason the US maintains large armies overseas is for their benefit. A convenient place to project their power abroad.
All that said, I agree that without the US help after WW2, an large area of Europe would of fallen under communism and many do appreciate it, but that was a long time ago.
The US (as a nation) used to claim it was the land of the free and tried to be a example to.the world, but unfortunately, it has become to look like a cesspit of corruption and incompetence.
