OVH founder says UPS fixed up day before blaze is early suspect as source of data centre destruction

I was going to check...

...to see if the number of attacks on my websites had reduced.

Then I remembered I had a Drop All against their ASN in Cloudflare.

Hacktivists breach Verkada and view 150,000 CCTV cams in hospitals, prisons, a Tesla factory, even Cloudflare HQ

Nothing new?

The reg quotes an article from 2016.

I was doing it with some of the first IP cameras back around 2000.

A quick Hotbot search (ask your parents kids) with the relevant url string. Then you had access to every camera out there. Pan, tilt and zoom all at your fingertips.

OVH data centre destroyed by fire in Strasbourg – all services unavailable

IGotOut Silver badge

It'll be interesting. I'll check my Cloudflare account later to see if there is a drop in attacks on my websites.

Pretty sure there will be, hopefully Digital Ocean, will be next.

So as you can see, I'm fully qualified for the position.

"No, a large and professional one. We fix our problems, we don't bodge "solutions".

Ok.well we had a system, one of the most reliable systems out there (think 5 9's is their MINIMUM reliability), by a multi-billion dollar company. We, along with a few others, had a bug that caused a race condition in one component causing it fail.

A " bodge" was to restart a background service every 48 hours.

A proper fix arrived 3 months later. Why three months? Because when you are running high availability systems installed in thousands of multi-billion pound companies, the last thing you want to do, is rush out a fix, to cause a catastrophic failure in multiple systems.

It's called thorough testing. And I applaud them for that.
