TBH for the last 30 years, no matter which party, local and national , they see as cutting funding for prevention a lot easier than just upping Police numbers, because, well statistics. You can't show that you stopped 10 crimes, but you can show you arrested 10 people.

I remember several years back when us westerners were complaining about how a sports clothing company in India / Bangladesh (can't remember) was only paying a few Dollars a day in wages.
Huge protests, company closed factory. Job done!
Then a reporter actually bothered to go and interview the affected workers and found many were now jobless and destitute and that the factory was actually one of the highest paying employers in the area.

Company needs line go up. Line go up because company sacks workers. Company needs to look good, so says it's due to AI. Line go up more. More money for the ones that could easily be replaced by AI (LLM).
So no, while AI isn't taking as many jobs as they claim it will, it's a convenient excuse to get rid of workers and pay less money to those left

Yes, kinda.
Ukraine has a layered defence made up of multiple semi compatible systems. What Ukraine is very good at it integrating these.
There is a NATO standard Comms system where different systems can talk to each other, but Ukraine is not part of NATO, they use a lot of old Soviet kit and equipment from (some formally) non NATO countries.

Much of what they add is self serving, which in itself is no bad thing, but when say Intel are adding a large amount of code, a large chunk of that code will be for intel related stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if China is just waiting for the US to run out of missiles and interceptors. It's pretty well know that Patriot stocks are running low and the amount of missiles and guided bombs they've chucked at the civilian infrastructure, must be a huge drain.
