Re: Vetting?

Every single worker should be vetted by security agenciies.

Saboteurs can do plenty of bad things.

Spoken like someone who has no clue about the aviation industry...or any large scale operation.

Justvan example, who vets the staff in China, or Saudi, or Argentina, or Ireland, or Isreal.

Please explain who vets who.

Musk tells of risk of Twitter bankruptcy as tweeters trash brands

If Twitter dies..

...does this mean journalists will have to start reporting on things again?

The whole Ratner story was a case of the papers being their usual scumbag selves.

The whole story was a poor lad who did really well for himself. He was surrounded by arrogant elitist jewelly companies who mocked his customers and products. He flipped it on them and pointed out that selling cheap crap to those that wanted the look of the expensive goods, but couldn't afford it, gave him annual profits greater than all the other mainstream jewllers combined.

The papers took the quote out of context and used it to destroy the business.

So UK or USA, they can do this, i.e. work until your final day of employment.

You're spot on, in a fashion.

Consumers can rely on unfair contract laws, basically meaning you can't bury bad pratices in the fine print.

However, businesses have no such cover, as they are expected to get legal advice before signing.

HOWEVER, you can not, for consumer or business, overide the law of the land, regarldess of what youbsay in a contract.

Re: Another day and another Linux unmade bed

Yawn....

No, XP had a well designed, well researched layout that took years of GUI design. Win7 won on stabilty.

Then marketing and brain dead hipster "designers" got in charge and fucked it all up.

Re: Zorin OS 16.2: Shapeshifting desktop to help the Linux-wary feel more at home

W2000 wascway, way more advanced than a service pack.

XP was a merger of 2K and Win98

Going by your logic, the Linux you have today is just a bunch of service packs of Linux 0.1

Charter won't pay out $7b after cable installer murdered woman. Just $1b instead

.... before going Wtf.

" It was alleged in testimony that Holden had complained to his bosses that he was penniless and desperate... It was further alleged that he had stolen credit cards and checks from elderly Spectrum subscribers, and that the corporation turned a blind eye to a pattern of theft by its installers and technicians."

" The court heard how Holden was not working the day he killed Thomas, and went out to her home anyway to rob her. He was able to use his company keycard to access a Charter vehicle lot and drive off in one of its service vans even though he was off-duty."

" Holden lied about his employment history – such as not revealing he had been previously fired – which wasn't checked by Charter when it hired him and would have been one of many red flags against him... Holden would break down crying at work, at one point was convinced he was a former Dallas Cowboys football player, suffered from insomnia, and was probably sleeping overnight in his Spectrum van."

What if I "invent" something useful to my employer in my own time?

In my case (and a lot of others), contractually the IP resides with the employer.

No it does not.

If you are using work time, or work tools then yes.

But if you develop a kick ass widget that your employer wants, they have fuck all claim.

Its why some fast food chains have reasonable quality meat in some places, and left over sludge in others.

The only way to fix the issues is for countries to have the same tough requirements, but until then, they will fight all the way.
