Genuine Question.
Apart from flag wavers, who actually cares?
Flying craft into asteroids, dive bombing into distant planets or visiting far of bodies I totally get, but nan on the moon?
In the 70s people got fed up with the costs and it became a non-event.
So my question, why? So we can get to Mars? Why? We have robotic craft that weren't available back in the 60s and 70s.
Grumpy old me just see's it a another expensive willy waving contest, just this time with China and India.

Industrialisation was to free up workers from the labour of tending to the home, fields and making things in a small community, freeing them up to laze about.

To be fair, Rover was a money pit. It only survived as long as it did because of hand out after hand out They were badly but rust buckets from the 70s onwards, badly thrown together and with only a slight afterthought of quality.
They got their asses kicked by the Japanese (as did many UK automotive industries) because they make reliable well built cars.
I actually liked and had a few Rovers, and because of that, I became a dab hand at replacing body parts, treating and filling rust holes and high quality respraying, hell I even became good friends with girl in the parts department.

Two days later they appear in my FB feed, despite nothing I follow in anyway relates to an obscure no hit wonder band
So as a test,I added sk8ter boi by Avril Lavigne. Again no way related to Sheep in Drugs or any other band I listen to.....it took a week for her to pop in my Instagram.

The issue is actually there are very few body shops left, the majority are just panel swappers and paint shops
An insurance company tried to write off a car because the dink in the rear meant a replacement rear window wouldn't fit. They said it was to expensive to replace glass, boot and get a respray. We argued it was crazy and they eventually found a proper body shop that took out the dink, dropped in the glass, and touched up the paint.
£2000 saved.
That's one example why insurance is so expensive.
I bought a couple of cars back from the insurance before and had them back up and running in a few hours.

I don't mind the daily commute...
Get to see the sunrise over misty valleys, looking into the valley with its sheep, cows and horse, but having to dodge to occasional deer, pheasant or suicidal rabbit that's wandered into the road can keep you on your toes.
Sure the tractors and combines sometimes slow you down a little (although plenty of modern tractors will happily go as fast as you), but its no big deal.
Hell I even get to run along a steam train from time to time, although rarely being eye level with the pilot of a Chinook can freak you out.
Yeah I'm on shit pay, but would I swap for £150k a year to live in London? Not a chance in hell.
