Why even worry? Unless you are going to do a very complex exploit to extract your own passwords, it, like nearly all of these attacks, is a non-event.

It's similar to MS office Vs Libre Office

It's only a monopoly is because people learn on it, then have to deal with others using and are scared to try anything new.

Affinity make some cracking tools. Yes they don't have all the bells and whistles and not all RAW formats work well, but I'd say for amateurs and semi-pros who don't have to pass files around, they just like Libre Office, are good enough for most.

Patches are only available to those on support contract.

No patching done.

This is no joke. Some of the kit I used to work on, the annual "support" was almost as much as the gear. Being telecoms gear, the need for support was almost non-existant. In fact, the only time you're likely to get a failure is a borked update.

You see, when you class "offshoring", it's been done for the last few thousand years at least.

As an example, the UK has been importing essential food items for at least a century, and non essential ones for much longer.

Much of mainland Europe is not renowned for there huge gas and oils reserves and where do you think your coffee comes from?

You see, people only complain about "offshoring" when it's not them producing the goods and there is a shortage.

No, not the band (just about to tour again btw), but the either self hosted, or if I remember correctly you could use theirs as well, media streamer.

You used it effectively like a internet connected Media Server. I had it often stream my own ripped content to my PDA (iPaq) or more relevant to this, I could use it to tell it, from my PDA, over the internet, what to show on my PC screen.

Once they started to use it in wider format, such as books it becomes much harder to read.

Those are all actions taken by the individual and intercepted at a 3rd party.

This allows them to do covert surveillance at any location they want and at anytime.

It's like having a camera and microphone in every single location in France.Just think how many locations and interactions you have in a weekend . All those are now fair game.

$10 million in invoices is incredibly easy to hide in mega corps.

I worked for a large UK UT reseller and it was not unusual to see invoices for well over £500k.

A few thousand here, few there for fake companies wouldn't be noticed, especially if you're the one approving them

VM without doubt are THE worst compy, not just broadband, I've ever had to deal with. Incompetence at every layer.

From day one, I told them EXACTLY what the issue, having worked in networks and telecoms for 25 years.

If BOTH the live TV and Internet are dropping EXACTLY every 5 minutes. The logs showed a loss of synch and a reset exactly the same time.

It affected everyone we knew that were originally on the Telewest installs.

It's not

Turning of and on again (40 or 50 times they tried this).

It's NOT the router.

It's NOT the TiVo box.

It's NOT the hot weather.

It's NOT the cable into the house.

It's NOT the street box as it affected other streets.

Dozens and dozens of phone calls.

3 house visits

4 street engineers

It was never fixed.

In the end my parents switched to Sky and Plusnet.

At least 8 other households left them. It's probably still happening, but they are most likely fobbing off the remaining people to this day
