Chinese e-tailer claimed 14-inch box stretched the size of a 9-inch tablet

Re: Too good to be true

Ugh. Those things used to pop up all the time. It was usually disguised as something like "10% off all future orders" and then in tiny text you noticed it said "reoccurring charge every month at £x per month".

No, no they don't.

And that's why I didn't even bother taking notice of this self serving pile of shit, which was probably AI generated and hence completely inaccurate.

UK boffin bait lands 18 international researchers

IGotOut Silver badge

Bit misleading figures

"But while the EU was putting up €500 million ($575 million) in funding for foreign eggheads, the UK could only stump up a dedicated pot of £54 million ($72 million) to lure boffins to Britain."

EU population: 450.3 million, £432 million

UK population: 69.5 million , £54 million.

So per capita, there isn't as big a difference as the headline figures imply.

Re: Writing Improvement Request

@An_Old_Dog.

Given the fact that in the 1960s Enoch Powell ordered the winding down of Asylums and the 80s bought about the Care In The Community Act, using the term asylum in the UK as a term for hospitals dedicated to the treatment of mental health patients is long , long defunct.

I'm in my 50s and have never used the term asylum except in an historical sense to some defunct Victorian building. And I lived two miles from a massive mental health unit and dated a girl who's parents worked there (now a typical souless new housing estate), so it not like I wasn't exposed to them.

Simple answer to low bids...

Make sure the contract is correctly written, with no wriggle room and lock them to that price.

But of course, the specs will be badly worded, the contract as watertight as a paper bag and a break clause penalty greater than the cost of the contract, so even if they deliver nothing, the tax payer, sorry, Government still is on the hook for 5x the original quote.
