Most British (and many other countries) get very, very little funding, if any at all.

To put it in context in 2012 when the UK hosted the Olympics, the British Women's Volleyball team got £0 in funding. They resorted to sponsored bike rides to raise the money needed to actually compete in the games held in their own fucking country.
