Re: Yawn

I came into work today and that stupid advertising, I mean lock screen had the following useful information.
Top right: "The end of the year is upon us once again and the holidays are coming up"
Centre: "Prioritise your well being this holiday season with Microsoft Search ...."
Checks date. Yup 10th of February.
Still makes a change from all the Copilot crap...
Congratulations on not understanding what you are talking about.
Cloudflares captcha (there are a few variations you can choose from) shouldn't in theory be presented to humans.
You seem to have a bizarre issue where it's checked that you are human then not presented you with the captcha i.e. its working exactly as intended.
...it wasn't just the fact it had built in ports, it's also the timing was damned good for the time. The PC, even with the best cards, couldn't get close.
Then the Falcon030 came along and completely and utterly obliterated anything the PC could manage. It took years for the PC to get even close.
...just as this shit was kicking off.
Devs loved "the cloud", because they didn't have to bother with us in IT, and all their stupid rules, like security, server management , ownership and proper administration.
And because they decided they knew better, this is why you have these clusterfucks now.
Right I'm off to bash some metal, I find it's less painful then repeatedly banging my head against a desk.
My story, given I haven't been to the doctor's in about 10 years.
Try calling. Engaged constantly.
Never heard of call waiting? Call back?
So try book online.
Need NHS account.
Put all details in, create account. Log in.
Try to book, says my details are under a different account. WTF?
So I now have two accounts, but only one I can use?
Why didn't it telli already had an account FFS.
.
Ok so now try to book that Doctor's appointment.
No appointments for next two weeks. No option to book later.
Try again a week later.
No option to even try to see the GP, just get results or have blood test.
I don't need either of these.
Try again couple of days later.
Different options, but still no GP.
(BTW, still can't get on the phone).
.
So finally, visit the NHS centre in person.
"You can see the GP tomorrow or in three days time?"
.
Turns out you can't even book to see the GP online, but there is nothing on the site telling that
.
It's something when I can book an appointment at a little local hairdressers easier than with a multi billion Pound organisation.
But my first electric toothbrush cost £30. It lasted almost 20 years.
My current one cost the same.
It's now 5 years old.
Somehow I don't think a friend £145 one (down from £250, so clearly a bargain!) will still be going as long.
The benefits.
His connects to an app for a timer!
Mine vibrates differently every 30 seconds.
The app can tell him he's brushing to hard or to soft
My nerves tell me that.
The app tells you when the brush is worn out.
My eyes tell me that.
The ONLY advantage it has, is a better battery BUT he says "it only takes an hour to charge, not 8".
My reply "How many times a day do you clean your teeth".
Sometimes cheaper is better.
Oh, my £150 14 year old TV is still going strong thanks.
My late brother was arrested at his home because he was wanted for jumping bail.
The fact he had always lived 100 miles away from the real wanted person was irrelevant. We had to PROVE his innocence by pulling out birth certificates and bank statements.
After their names and DOB matched, so they MUST have the right person.
"would you have described them as "two boys"?
Just starting "back in the day" they could of easily be 16 or younger.
And as pointed out, I asked woman just the past Saturday who she was at the event with, and she said "those girls over there". The youngest was probably 40.
I've also said "who's the new lad?" on quite a few occasions.
I agree.
I've FTTC and at 38mbs it's absolutely fine for me. For me, waiting 30 seconds less to download a file for twice the price is just pointless. I was happy with it at 18mbs, but it was cheaper to switch than stay as it was
I can understand for a large family with everyone on line, or people that handle huge files, but for most it's fine.
"In that sense I was taught right and wrong. Good and Evil. I tend to recognize it when I see it."
Ah the bible.
Incest. Good
Rape. Good
Gang Rape of your virgin daughters, even better.
Genocide Good
Mass Murder Good
Wanton Destruction. Good.
Misogyny. Good.
Yup a shining example of a book to live you're life by.
@Truth1492
So what you are saying is I have to very carefully state what I want, otherwise I may not get what I ask for?
So if I want a a USB-C I need to go...I don't know
Please purchase a 3m usb cable with a female type c connector at each end, with a black and white braided cord, that has at least a 4 star review rating with a minimum of 1000 reviews, each containing at least 6 words. Then please get the vendor to send it via the cheapest method, but to my alternative drop off point rather than my house. If this isn't in stock then please can I have either a 5m cable......
Or I just go on a fucking website and go, click, click, click, done!
...Zuck is scum, only interested in money and power.
They could fix much of what is wrong with Meta, but over and over it gets blocked at the highest level, because after all, number must go up.
I'll admit it, I'm on there because in the early days it was OK.
Now it's the primary way I find out about live music events.
I'm on Bluesky and it's a joy to only see posts from people I actually want to follow. The problem is it have 90% of the people I follow on there....yet.
...I can't give specifics as people that know me reading it will know who I am.
This is not just public sector issue, it a large entity issue.
It's not just Oracle, it's a management/ project management issue.
I will give my example.
The in house it team in the area concerned we're not at any point informed or encouraged in discussion "due to our negative attitude to the existing core product roll out" (which itself failed to deliver on half the promises, one of which I warned them about from day one, which ended up costing £70,000 to correct, but I digress). So managers, consultants from the core product team, and a third party all huddled together over a 6 months to come up with super shiny. A replacement for the old system which I was an expert in.
They bought £500,000 worth of shiny of the 3rd party and then spent 3 months trying to get it to work. They all squabbled about who's fault it was because it couldn't do XYZ, vendor A had said it could, vendor B said out of spec. It was still going when i walked out.
In the meantime I'd used a trial bit if software, that would cost £1000 / annum and a spare server we had. Whacked up a webpage to spit out the info required and bingo. Job done.
All the teams rolled it out by stealth as a "test", as it did exactly what they wanted.
Then the trial was coming to an end. I asked for the £1000 to purchase the software.
Nothing
Getting closer to expiry date.
Nothing.
1 day to go
Nothing.
Expiry date came.
Software closed down all hell broke loose as they were no blind.
Somehow it's my fault.
Next day I didn't get out of bed and never went back.
Don't know if fixed or not. I doubt it, as nothing was documented, as far as I was concerned it was a trial.
Tldr
Blame the management teams and the sales consultants, for not having fucking clue what the staff and end users actually need or want.
