FBI officially fingers North Korea for $1.5B Bybit crypto-burglary

IGotOut Silver badge

Genuine Question

If crypto is supposed to be this amazing currency, free from interference and government control etc etc

How is it that a single entity can freeze it? Also how do you retrieve it?

What's to stop you selling a few hundred million in scam coin, then just freezing it and getting it back?

Don't know why folks say people didn't lose their jobs...

Plenty are being kicked out, up to 600 in fact.

Oh you mean those actually responsible for this fuck up?

Don't be silly.

Tech jobs are now white-collar trades that need apprentices, not a career crawl

Give me one solid reason...

...why I should encourage my kids into IT?

Oh because....

So you won't lay them off when the massive profits aren't quite massive enough? Or outsource their job to another cheaper country? Or expect them to 80 hour weeks because others have left and you don't want to replace them? Or you believe the AI bullshit generators and lay them off because...AI?

Re: The AI "Bubble"

@williamf

Reading your post, you realise you are posting the polar opposites of the case you are defending

An example

"the box is still with me as a keepsake). Even microsoft and intel told you to save a few bucks and get a 486SX"

So me a post from MS or Intel now telling us we don't need AI and Intel going, just buy the older processor.

I also heard this shit multiple times of people defending AI slop.

Oh people said a 386 was a waste of money.

Guess what, when they came out, for the majority of time they were, just like paying £Mark for a 4K was.

Here is the difference between those products and the AI joke beset upon us now.

People WANTED those products, but couldn't justify the expenditure, as it was overkill

Now the PRODUCERS of the products are justifying the expenditure, despite the consumers having desire to "own" the product.

AI is NOT another 386 or iPhone or Nintendo Wii.

No, AI is another 3DTV or Metaverse. A product dreamt up by growth a all cost shareholder driven assholes, to try and sell products people don't want, without a fucking clue how to make it profitable or, the gods forbid, have a use for the vast majority of people on this planet.
