AI search could kill the web without new quality signals and revenue models

IGotOut Silver badge

Re: It will kill content creators, not the web

Unfortunately you are missing the point.

"people aren't going to stop reading the NYT online, visiting El Reg, or stop buying things from Amazon"

There have already been multiple complaints from MAJOR outlets, such as the BBC and I guess you've missed the fact that NYT is suing MS and OpenAI for content scraping. They even had to block the Internet Archives bots so that the parasites can't scrape that instead.

"or market, a barrier to block AI training, and the content that can't be scraped by AI will need to be accessed directly. It'll take a few years to shake out..."

Cloudflare (The Reg is a customer) already provides this, but the scumbag companies such a Google and MS are hiding the scraping traffic in regular search indexing.

US auto regulators want to kill robotaxi brake pedals

IGotOut Silver badge

Re: Am I missing the difference?

Part of the issue is they can be skewed. For example on a nice city block in the USA they can say "Look how safe our vehicles are!". Stick on my route to work on twisting roads in the UK, I'd give them to the fist s-bend before they career off into a farmers field.

Also they just shut down if they get confused. Most meatbags if they see a road closed sign aren't like to just stop in the middle of the road for 30 minutes.....or just ignore it and plough right on through*

Actually how DO they close with temporary closures (say 10am to 4pm) or signs that say "Road closed 5 miles ahead"

IGotOut Silver badge

Fucking idiots

If I'm stupid enough to ever end up in one, I'd like the option of at least trying to stop the thing if it's hurtling out of control down the road.
