So Beast.

You're now using AI as your Russian - English translator has maxed out for today.

I guess your country would fund it harder to bomb 10,000 solar panels and wind turbines than a single power station. But you've kind of move on from that and just go for killing kids.

EU Chips Act heading for failure, time for Chips Act 2.0

IGotOut Silver badge

Wrong idea?

Instead of trying to woo the likes of Intel and TSMC, wouldn't Europe be better off aiming at home grown companies, in non x86 or "AI" fields?

If a car is supposed to have 3000 chips (no idea how they go to that number), then aim for the 2900 little chips rather than the 100 big ones.

AI bigwigs urge AGs to block OpenAI's profit pivot

IGotOut Silver badge

Missing the point...

...if OpenAI fails to turn to a for profit company, then a lot of it's disgusting funding turns to debt. So not only will it be burning through an unsustainable amount of cash at a huge loss, but it will then be saddled with debt it cannot repay.

If it gets more debt ridden, the more likely it is to collapse.

If it collapses then it has a huge knock on effect on Microsoft, Oracle, Nvidia, SoftBank and so many more that are propping up this bullshit machine. It will have a knock on just those directly involved in Open ai, but the scumbags that are riding the hype machine.

Everyone that is able to do, should get in touch with the AG's and demand it doesn't happen.

All (as far as in aware) British have a physical device to inform blind or partially sighted it's time to cross. That's why some don't have an audible indicator, as there it to much other noise around and it can lead to confusion.

Oh the device. Stick your hand under controller and you'll feel a little knob (stop it), when it's time to cross, it rotates.

I was hired in IT because I knew how to build a PC from scratch (this was about 94), knew how to install software and that was it. I got the job just because a friend said I knew a bit about computers.

Started as desktop support, moved into networking and then ultimately telecoms, designing a setup that the world's largest vendor said was impossible.

Being good in IT (and many jobs) is not knowing how to follow a guide or a set formula, it's knowing how to solve problems.

People long for the good old days of breakdowns, half a matchstick behind the choke , piss poor economy and using as much oil as petrol.

As you stated, they are designed, manufactured and assembled in Europe.

They are owned by US companies, but they are not US cars.

IGotOut Silver badge

Holy shit....

...this is why Europeans don't buy US cars.

I've a little Hyundai with 112,000 miles on the clock, and the most serious issue it's had is 2 of the 3 ignition leads started to fray. Cost £16 each to buy.

MX Linux 23.6 brings Debian freshness, without the systemd funk

IGotOut Silver badge

What is it with Linux...

..and graphics cards?

The author (rightly) complains that the "legacy" drivers have been removed. Why? Why do that?

I've an a laptop and a pc, both of which are a decade old, both running Windows 10, neither of which have issues. FFS the laptop can drive it's internal display, a display port AND a SVGA, all at different resolutions and frame rates with no problems whatsoever.

When I tried Mint (which I've used on other kit), it couldn't bring up the second display properly.

Looking at the forums, it gives you shit load of things to try. Why?

I probably haven't had an issue since Windows XP. Sure there have been issues where if I've installed the 3rd party drivers, Windows then goes and fucks them up, but out of the box I've never had an issue getting a screen to work.
