Re: Bad move?
When it was launched, it looked like Russia may have gotten away from it's imperialistic days. But it wasn't to be.
Even afterwards counties actually got along when it came to a lot of science projects.

Well given somehow I have two government ID's, which one does nothing and the other I can't use because I only have half the information required to use it. But that's OK because I can revalidate it online. Oh wait, the system is so fucked it constantly falls over or just fails to work.
Still at least I can use one of my two NHS numbers to book an appointment online....ah shit no, still have to go in person to book in.
And then there's the elderly, you know, one of the biggest users of government services. Both my parents have smart phones. My dad constantly hangs up by accident when trying to answer the phone and my mum has finally got the hang of WhatsApp.
Going by the flags I see, half the people will have the flag tattooed upside down.
Yes, the people putting them up are so "patriotic" they don't even know how to fly the flag (and I'm constantly confused why most are flown at half mast).
Still, better than them flying the Georgia flag, because its the Ingerland flag x5
@CorwinX
When I worked on a big IT project (£10 million spend) we worked with people from several parts of the UK, France, The Netherlands, Italy, Romania, Spain and the USA.
Pretty sure we didn't all commute to the same office 4 days a week. In fact I never even met the Italians and Spanish once
Yet, despite it being a horrendously complex project taking 3 years from start to finish, there wasn't a single time we felt that everyone had to be in the same place.
Guess what.
If idiots hadn't voted Brexit to "secure our borders", it would be easier to return the to EU countries
But people fell for the lies.
Look up the Dublin agreement on asylum seekers for a little education.
But im sure the right wing knuckle draggers will come out and admit that voting Brexit was a fucking stupid idea and made it worse.
What with Europe being told it should stand on it's on feet, thus sending European military stock prices through the roof while the US industrial military complex has taken a battering.
Canada dumping US goods and arms contracts and forming stronger relationships with Europe, Australia and Mexico.
China banning Nvidia chips and restricting rare earth exports as well as a fall in US food imports.
Now Indian politicians urging a huge population to switch from US software.
Throw in a 14% drop in tourism, resulting in a $12.5 billion loss in income....
How are these bully boy tactics working for you?
"While OpenAI claims the new sites will create 25,000 onsite jobs,"
And how many once construction is finished?
What you think all of us are as stupid as politicians and much of the press?
Here's a thought. For every job short of that target, someone gets to kick the CEO's in the balls.
Well Sickle Cell mainly affects black people so funding cuts will be ok. Breast cancer mainly affects women, so again fine.
So that just leave prostate cancer, which tends to affect older men, so that will get extra funding.
No sarcasm tag as that's the way it's going.
No he is...think about it.
While China ploughs 10s if not 100s of Billions into STEM education and research, the USA cuts the funding.
That way, the USA will be so backwards, that China won't want to hack systems.and steal IP.
See clever!
Not only that, he will put a 500% tariff on intelligence! That'll show them.
MAGA
Make America Gormless Again.
A £20billion investment.
What a fucking lie but another lying scumbag.
Where will most of the "investment" be spent.
Oh yes, US chip companies and server makers.
Apart from the building of the DC, which will then be over in 6 months, and about 40 - 50 jobs. That's it.
So for 40 or 50 jobs, there will be a huge drain on electricity and water supplies impacting the entire region.
But governments (all sides) are to fucking stupid / corrupt to notice.
"For example, a music fan could tell an agent to buy concert tickets that go on sale at midnight and then go to sleep, knowing that the agent would buy the number and location of tickets they had asked for (presumably with a price limit)."
So every concert will now be sold out in 1 nanosecond by touts running bot farms (it's bad enough now).
Then your AI agent will pay £1million because it thought you really wanted it.
Oh yeah also I ALWAYS search for "A pair of white trainers"
These people really should get out into the real world occasionally.
Google is just another scummy corporation that needs to die.
"Microsoft simply exits the EU market completely and refuses to do further business with EU member states"
How many times do we hear these old trope pushed out?
Did MS exit the EU when forced to unbundle IE?
Did Apple exit the EU when forced to adopt USB C?
Did software companies leave the EU when forced to comply with GDPR?
No
Reason?
The EU is one of the largest markets in the world. Try telling the shareholders "Oh we're, just going to kill 30-50% of our profits because we don't want to spend a few million maintaining it"
The AI hype train....again.
"Oh look how powerful and dangerous this is!"
"It's a game changer!"
""It's going to revolutionise the world".
Just fuck off and do something useful....like die....or at least become a hermit.
I've seen "AI" do a couple of cool things, but that is massively outweighed by the daily slop it churns out.
" it negotiates on behalf of its members, but the definition of 'fair' will be determined by an open, transparent process that needs to be approved by members,"
And it all falls apart here. Why should "members" decide how much I charge? A huge site might go, sure 10c a item is fine, knowing they will get 10s of thousands in revenue. But what about a small artist, that gets their designs ripped off, all for 50c, probably costing more in bandwidth than they make
Nope.
It should be the site owner that gets to choose, end of.
We payed for these ourselves! Think of the poor shareholders.
If it's like UK student accommodation it's an absolute fucking rip off.
One near where I used to live was close on a grand a month for a one room + shower room "studio'.
For the same price a few miles down the the road, I rented a two bed, one bathroom, one shower room, lounge and kitchen in a beautiful grade 2 listed building!
