Trump says Americans shouldn't 'pick up the tab' for AI datacenter grid upgrades

IGotOut Silver badge

Crazy idea.

Instead of giving billions of Dollars in tax breaks to build the data centres how about, wait for it.....tax them and build out the electric (and water) grids with them.

Ah yeah, free market.

AI and automation could erase 10.4 million US roles by 2030

IGotOut Silver badge

No it won't

It's just more AI hype, this time disguised as the apocalypse.

Two sides of the same coin.

Move along, nothing to see.

Re: Not at the moment

" And yes she was shot dead for using her car as a deadly weapon. "

Have you actually watched the fucking video? Or just the government press releases have put out?

Let's run over a few things.

1. The officer pulled his gun out whilst she was pretty much stationary after reversing and pointing her wheels away from him.

2. He was so terrified of being run over, he kept his mobile phone in his had, which he had previously been filming her with.

3. He just stepped out of the way.

4. He shot her through the side window. I've yet to see a car able to drive sideways at such a low speed.

5. She wasn't in anyway aggressive, footage shows her taking the piss out of him filming stating that unlike him, she has the same registration plate everyday.

The only aggressive acts carried out were by ICE and the murderer involved.

But you're to fucking brainwashed to actually think for yourself.

"Taiwan should threaten to declare independence if China.."

Errrrrmmmm. You may want to go check your history books.

IGotOut Silver badge

You really are a fucking idiot.

If you think kidnapping a tin pot dictator like Maduro would be similar to kidnapping a leader of China with it's huge military and decently advanced weapons, then you really have no concept of reality, let alone the basics. Even Russia still has the Nuclear option.

Federal agencies told to fix or ditch Gogs as exploited zero-day lands on CISA hit list

IGotOut Silver badge

No update at time of writing.

Never heard of it (not what I'd use) but after a bit of digging, it looks like the same old story.

"Q: What kind of support is available for Gogs?

A: Gogs relies on community support through its GitHub repository and forums. Since it has a single maintainer, updates and responses may be slower compared to projects with larger teams or more active communities."

And there we have it. Another popular Open Source project run by a (probably overworked) single maintainer, most likely doing it in their spare time after working a full time job.

Britain goes shopping for a rapid-fire missile to help Ukraine hit back

IGotOut Silver badge

Before we all slag off the UK....

You may want to check out Wes O'Donnell on YouTube to see all the equipment the UK has delivered and developed already. Some old, some so new even the UK forces don't have them yet. Some highlights.

Terrahawk Palidin

Brake stop

Rattler Sea Drones (developed with Ukraine)

AS90 Artillery

Storm Shadow (new ones are free of US tech)

Martlett missile

And then there is the brand new French missile defence system, Norwegian missiles, German SkyNex, Canadian targeting systems, Czech Artillery.

Europe and its real allies has been supplying brand new cutting edge tech, free from US constraints for some time now.

So retails would be forced to make a loss?

PC margins are wafer thin, so how is any company going to survive being forced to take a hit?

Hint: You can already buy PC's without an OS but often cost the same due to be low volume production.

What you *could* say is all PCs do not come with a pre installed OS, but then you have the issue of driver complexity.

And these will only last a few years before they need replacing all over again.

Don't point the finger to far, many of us in Europe could be facing similar scenarios soon enough. For now we just have to endure the incompetent rather than the downright immoral.

I presume you mean trading in-stock is currently profitable. AI companies are the complete opposite. Probably in the history of mankind has there been such a huge disparity between expenditure and income.

Baby's got clack: HP pushes PC-in-a-keyboard for businesses with hot desks

Flop.

So you'll need a special case for it to carry it around as its going to get battered otherwise (carry a standard keyboard round with you in a month and see how that goes)

You'll need a power supply at all times unless 100% of the screens have USB power. Oh and a bunch of cables.

You'll need a screen otherwise that unused empty desk....yeah that's a no go.

And as for "Where we could see the G1a taking off is in call centers ". That's not how call centres operate. You have hundreds, if not thousands of generic PC's attached to generic monitors and the operator just logs into the pc (and phone if not using a soft phone) and done. No pissing about plugging in cables, waiting for it to boot, update, reboot, update crash, reboot.

AI faces closing time at the cash buffet

IGotOut Silver badge

Re: Pointless

I haven't down voted you as I can see your reasoning and in the logic, but AI can not replace real people.

Take Thai. You are presuming that AI has the "intelligence" to distinguish between contextual and tonal usages, but as we see so often, it can't. It has no concept of right or wrong, just mathematical probability.

Even with British English it will struggle with context.

Guy turns up to a pub in his slippers. His best mate points at him across the room and shouts "Dave you fucking idiot, what are you wearing? Come over here you useless bellend"

AI has no idea wether that's a threat or a small bit of harmless banter between good friends. It's more likely to see it as an aggressive threat due to the wording.

Or "God I'm a moron. I only went to work today only to realise it's Sunday. I'm such a idiot".

AI is likely to presume the person IS an moron (yes, yes I know).

So I agree it can help, but it's certainly no substitute.

Imagine a family of four. A one car family belonging to Daddy.

Its Saturday.

Daddy drops Kourtney off at ballet, before dropping Brooklyn off at the football, then drops Britney at the nail bar before he heads off to pick up a Mullfjället from IKEA, then proceeds to pick them up up after enjoying a Matcha Green Tea Cream Frappuccino.

Hectic.

But now you can book a Robotaxi for Kourtney, one for Brooklyn, one for Kourtney and go grab what you need in a more more leisurely pace.

Phew, so glad of the 4 cars on the road, rather than the one.
