Has Windows 11 really lost marketshare to Windows 10?

Re: Those numbers are clearly wrong

I upgraded to windows 11 pro on this PC and ran it for 3 months or so. While it seemed to do what was required, it became annoying, so I restored Windows 10 from a disk image and brought it upto date quite quickly. Of course I had to fix the recovery partition issue using diskpart, which amazingly worked first time. So maybe its also people doing what I have done which changes the figures.

Now all Windows 11 users are getting adverts to 'make the Start menu great again'

Re: Flaky ad ridden OS

One was an old accounts program - Quicken 2002 that just about installs in Windows, the other was a 32bit game also old that works in compatability mode for windows 95. I tried installing Quicken with Wine, but although it appeared to install the program would not work. So I am still looking for replacements for that and also something for Outlook that is not Thunderbird.

Flaky ad ridden OS

I had got windows 11 running mostly OK on my main desktop, with a local account, via windows update. I had most things turned off with shut up 10 installed and had got it looking almost like windows 10. However a couple of applications had become very flaky, but I persevered, reasoning that I would eventually have to use it permanently and had begun looking for alternatives.

Now that M$ intend to infest the OS with ads I have restored windows 10, from my latest disc image, happy in the knowledge that everything is working as it should for now. I will run it until October 2025 when I will then decide which OS to use, unless M$ do the decent thing and extend it. I wont hold my breath.

Instead of ads they should fix the Kb5034441 screwup.

I did try Linux Mint which installed easily and I quite liked it, but had a problem finding programs to replace the windows ones.

Windows update Situation Normal

Another year and MS is back to normal, messing up windows update.

I installed the January updates on a laptop I use as a test PC and found that KB5034441 will not update because the recovery partition is not big enough.

MS admit this in the release notes with instructions how to extend the partition. How on earth will an average user be able to address this.

I wait with bated breath for MS to fix it. Do they ever test this stuff or even understand how PCs work?

Re: I too run Windows 7 and Sophos

At the moment I am hoping M$ will extend W7 like they did with XP. I did do the downgrade to W10 and made a disk image which I update after patch Tuesday, so if forced I will have to restore W10 - under protest.

I too run Windows 7 and Sophos

I too run Windows 7 Pro with Sophos endpoint on 2 desktops at home and am not seeing any problems. Perhaps its down to the Motherboard/cpu generation combination. The desktops are Asus z87s and Intel 4770K's
