Pirate Bay co-founder hopes it will die

Steven Foster

That's one of the most stupid things I've ever read.

YouTube blocks music videos in UK

Steven Foster

You said it really

Nobody is impressed when these big companies start acting like spoiled brats and fall out in public, and the only people who suffer are the customers.

Pretty pathetic really, but certainly nothing new.

PC World cuts off Capita call centre contract

Steven Foster

Ha. Ha hahahaha

I worked there when we got taken over by Crapita. They ruined everything and we all knew it. We all wished to god DSGi would realise their fuckup and take it back. But obviously they couldn't, contracts and yadda yadda.

It was very obvious to us all how terrible they were though. It's why I left.

Fasthosts to offshore support staff

Steven Foster

Don't know why they even bother with their weasel words. What they mean is they want to save money. Simple as.

Virgin Media trials longer bandwidth throttling

Steven Foster

Load of wank

How about they stop overselling beyond their capacity and work on improving that, rather than punishing people who actually try and use what they advertise to the full extent.

Yes I know, all been said before, blah blah. Doesn't make it any less true though.

BBC seen to yield over website snooping

Data Pimping

All the rage these days, I hear all the Publicly funded companies are doing it.

El Reg pays tribute to father of Playmobil

Steven Foster

What a great send off to such a legend. And thanks for cheering me up on Friday!

Recession prompts job cuts at PC World call centres

Steven Foster

@Once upon a time.....

Tell me about it. Interestingly, they started to disappear around about the time Crapita took over.

Steven Foster

Lol, crapita.

So glad I left PCSC when those clowns took over.

Father of Playmobil dies at 79

Steven Foster

A sad day...

RIP :(

Extreme porn law goes live - are you ready?

Steven Foster

@World of Warcraft

Haha, that made me laugh. Which I suppose is a form of gratification.

Uh oh...

IWF confirms Wayback Machine porn blacklisting

Steven Foster

It begins...

So am I to expect more random censorship then? It seems to me that every time some unknown person somewhere decides that there's the remote possibility of a kiddy porn picture somewhere on some site, that site ends up unavilable. But not blocked properly, oh no, instead you get some generic 404/connection error.

So either the IWF are being nazis, or the ISPs SUCK at filtering and don't know their arses from their elbows. Or both.

But it's always so reassuring to know that a legitimate site may one day appear to be "down" when I need it. Only it isn't down, it's actually blocked, without saying it's blocked, because somebody wouldn't THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

Health minister promises Rate-My-Doc! service

Steven Foster

Like Scrubs then?

Steven Foster

Oh and...

Anyone who thinks turning a vital service into a shitly come dancing-style reality TV show needs shooting.

Dixons plunges to loss

Steven Foster

@Matt Smart

I hear ya mate. I worked for PC ServiceCall (Now the Tech Guys) a few years back and DSGi sold us down the river when they handed management over to Capita. Suddenly we found ourselves being fucked over with shift changes and other disasterous new policies (despite original assurances that things would remain the same) and lost any "benefits" of being a DSGi employee.

They can crash and burn for all I care.

Satanic net neologisms - nominations invited

Steven Foster

Blog is still bad enough for me.

Police probe Baby P text messages and websites

Steven Foster

It's too late.

Once information gets on the Internet, no amount of censorship attempts will stop it. When will they realise this?

Oz pub dishes up really crap ice cream

Steven Foster

It was all going well until...

The last comment about Jessica Whyte suddenly being unable to wipe her sons ass and go out eating. I agree they have a case if they were actually served shit but there's no need to phone it in to that extent. It's like people claiming to be on anti-depressants and unable to work after tripping over a paving stone and sueing the Council.

Woman cuffed for deleting virtual husband

Steven Foster

It's a game. He gave out his password. Ridiculously disproportionate "punishment".

That is all.

I'm very sorry, says gay health warning clergyman

Steven Foster

Not good enough.

Apologising doesn't make it right, nor does it change his prejudiced opinions, it just means he got in trouble and wants to try and wriggle his way out.

Nintendo introduces redesigned DS

Steven Foster

So they're...

Removing Backwards compatibility for the sake of a few mm. And introducing pointless gimmicks like a crappy camera because nobody has one of them on their phones already.

EA in Spore DRM climbdown

Steven Foster

Not good enough.

Doesn't change the fact that you're still being treated like a criminal. Doesn't change the fact you're still at the Mercey of EA if things go wrong. Doesn't change the fact that EA still think this crap works.

World of Warcraft upkeep costs only $200m

Steven Foster

@ Jaowon

Haha, you're probably right there.

Steven Foster

It's no real suprise that they are making bags of cash, but the real question is so what? Lots of people (incl myself) enjoy the game and have no problem with paying a relatively small fee per month to keep doing so.

Making all that money also means they can pump vast amounts of time and resources into other projects, eg Starcraft II and Diablo III.

Honestly, I hate a lot of companies out there, but Blizzard isn't one of them.

Not bad.

Overall I like it. But as others have said, fixed width isn't a good idea, and I preferred the old Icons.

Amazon flash mob mauls Spore DRM

Steven Foster

Serves them right. EA are a terrible company. 90% of their games are terrible. This DRM bollocks is a complete backwards step and nobody in their right mind would subject themselves to such nonsense. I only hope those who have been unfortunate enough to have been bitch slapped by this "You're a criminal" system have the sense to not do business with this company again.

Chrome-fed Googasm bares tech pundit futility

Excessive profanities aside, this article sums my feelings up nicely.

I admit I like Chrome, but it is just a Web Browser. That's it. It's not that exciting.

Police quiz BT on secret Phorm trials

Steven Foster

Good, but...

It'll be all for naught. If anything, they'll end up with a slap on the wrist and an insignificant fine. I highly doubt any heads will roll for this and I _know_ BT will not learn their lesson.

Microsoft touts trustworthy browsing with IE8

Comedy UK social network berates moaning users

Steven Foster
Thumb Down

I don't know what people are going on about giving them Kudos for writing a tirade filled with foul language. If I was a member of that site I'd be rather worried about my personal details being in the hands of such idiots by this point.

There's nothing down-to-earth or real about writing in such a way. I hate spin and "business-like" talk as much as the next guy, but I still expect some level of professionalism from a site Admin. In the site I admin I swear sometimes as well (ZOMG :O!!), but their rant really does seem to be swearing for the sake of swearing.

The whole thing just reeks of "Look at how down with the kids we are, we cuss every second word like all the other cool kids out there" - Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate it now (I'm 21, I guess their target audience is 14?), but the whole thing just strikes me as pretty pathetic.

Then again, I can't be arsed with social networking anyway.

Heaviest Virgin Media downloaders face new daytime go-slow

Utter Bull

Stupid hypocritical company, on the one hand advertising super fast mega speed broadband and on the other throttling (read, punishing) users who actually take advantage of this.

Glad I left them when I did.

Id Dooms gamers to new shoot-'em-up sequel

Can't wait

Loved the original Dooms. Enjoyed Doom 3, despite some naysayers. Bring on Doom 4!

Hollywood awarded $110m against TorrentSpy

Steven Foster

Victory, yeah...

Wow looks like the MPAA/RIAA cartel has won. Oh wait, how many other Torrent sites are there? And like others have said, what are the odds of them getting the money? Slim methinks.

Yes, go MPAA, we're all very proud of you.
