Mummy, mummy, there's a nuclear monster!

What? Lewis Page, Worry?

http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/04/85295.html

Quote: "According to TEPCO, radioactive iodine-131 amounting to 220 becquerels per cubic centimeter, cesium-134 of 88 becquerels and cesium-137 of 93 becquerels were detected in the pool water. Those substances are generated by nuclear fission."

Or to put it another way Fukushima Daichi reactor 4 fuel pool is now an open air reactor.

Does Lewis Page take happy juice

http://blogs.forbes.com/oshadavidson/2011/04/12/tepco-radiation-from-fukushima-may-be-worse-than-chernobyl/

Quote from the article - "An official of Fukushima nuclear power plant operator TEPCO concedes that “the amount of (radioactive) leakage could eventually reach that of Chernobyl or exceed it.”

But of course these are the usual scaremongers in the happy happy joy joy world of Lewis Paige

Fukushima fearmongers are stealing our Jetsons future

Mr Happy Juice

1. Tiny quantities of plutonium are not toxic in any normal sense.

Well you breathe some in then. Second thoughts, you and Ann Coulter breathe some

2. The Japanese are going to entomb it; that's why they are buying a Putzmeister SRS concrete pump from Ashmore concrete in Georgia. As for a permanent exclusion zone, I'm sure you're right about that, I hope the Japanese government listens to you - see also 4.

3. Agreed, but there is the probability of unpredictable criticality from the corium dumped in the drywell - and releases will only be direct into the water table if, as is likely, one or more drywells are cracked.

4. Of course radioactive dust is not a problem - tell that to the 5100 smallholders in Wales who are still not allowed to sell their sheep because of Chernobyl. And tell those namby-pamby Japanese to man up and collect the dead from the tsumami in the 20 km radiological exclusion zone. While you're at it tell the Americans to allow their troops closer than 90 km from Fukushima, do they want to live forever?

You might like to tell the Chinese that the contamination on those ships they turned away is good for them

5. The tsumami is a catastrophe and the only thing keeping keeping it from being worse are the people dealing with a partial meltown and at least 1 containment that is releasing contaminated water into the ground.

I hope Mr Page is well paid

For he is making a complete fool of himself

At least 2 of the plutonium samples were specifically identifiable as coming from Fukushima reactors.

Those well known fearmongers the IAEA identified the village of Iitate 40 km from Fukushima Number 1 as exceeding the criterion for evacuation.

Radioactive iodine in the seawater near the plant now exceeds background levels by 4,000

times.

Exposed bodies in within the 20 km exclusion zone are still lying uncollected because of excessive radiation.

Those scaredypants of the US forces bar personnel from going within 80 km of the plant.

Perhaps Mr Page might like to read Mr Pallast

Because he was involved in N plant inspections

http://www.gregpalast.com/no-bs-info-on-japan-nuclearobama-invites-tokyo-electric-to-build-us-nukes-with-taxpayer-funds/

The item is primarily lambasting the Obama WH but contains this nice tid-bit:

"Last night I heard CNN reporters repeat the official line that the tsunami disabled the pumps needed to cool the reactors, implying that water unexpectedly got into the diesel generators that run the pumps.

These safety back-up systems are the 'EDGs' in nuke-speak: Emergency Diesel Generators. That they didn't work in an emergency is like a fire department telling us they couldn't save a building because "it was on fire."

Perhaps Mr Page would like to respond to Mr Pallast

Louis is an embarassment to El Reg

Consistent in his support for the insupportable. To this man there can never be any bad news about nuclear power. As far as he is concerned if a storage pond is dry and it is too hazardous to allow helicopter pilots to fly over to try and cool the rods it is a mere bagatelle.

The fact that the containment at one reactor is breached is nothing to worry about. A distant helicopter crew flying from the USS Ronald Reagan receive a dose of 400 milliSv in one hour which is 4 times their monthly allowed dose is incidental to the onward march of the glorious reactor. Monthly allowed doses? P'shaw set too low by the whiny nannies of the US regulator.

Get rid of him Reg, send him to World Nut Daily.

Castles in the air

I really do not believe that most of these "rogue" states will launch their missiles on a nice day with only thin layers of scattered cloud. This boondoggle (or white elephant) is almost certain not to be able to burn it's way through several hundred tonnes of water vapour. This project is pure US pork
