Magic Leap rattles money tin, assigns patents to a megabank, sues another ex-staffer... But fear not, all's fine

Mattmattic

many years ago I worked for a company that spent £100M on developing software.

Only it didn't. About £80M was siphoned off to a lovely tropical paradise where the Managing Director took very early retirement.

Not saying this has happened with the Tragic Sleep company, just relating the story I know of.

Re: "don't enter the country illegally"

Or the children had somehow ended up in the company of human traffickers. You know, those folks who get busted for running brothels with women who were forced into prostitution.

Re: Good to know that they are not proponents of border security

Yeah! But Obama was... duh... Orange Man Baaaad!

Moral relativism. It's not smart, nor is it right.

A spot of after-hours business email does you good, apparently

Mattmattic

Working for a company that covers several very different time zones means that "out of hours" email isn't a thing any more. My contact in Australia, Africa or the USA needs an urgent answer in their own time zone, then I have to get back to them.

The sound of silence is actually the sound of a malicious smart speaker app listening in on you

Mattmattic

No smart speakers in our house for those reasons. Plus we are aware that our parrot would order stuff via Amazon.

Traffic lights worldwide set to change after Swedish engineer saw red over getting a ticket

Mattmattic

I have seen lights when they accidentally show red and amber at the same time. And even more worrying when all four lights at the junction show green and there's a hell of a crash between vehicles coming from all four directions.

Google lashes out at DoJ, Oracle as it asks US Supremes to sniff Java suit one last time

Google likes to think it IS the Internet and stuff. Google gets away with a lot of stuff. How many lunches and bottles of booze and free tech stuff eased those Amicus briefings?

What's the betting that the link to the famed "Rothschild" name is spurious at best or entirely non-existent?

Not entirely sure this is a good idea.

Zapped from the Play store: Another developer gets no sense from Google, appeals to the public

Mattmattic

Re: The Register has asked Google to comment...

This is how it works. The Google bots and algorithms run riot taking down developers often for no reason at all.

The developer must then appeal to harassed and overworked unpaid volunteers on a help forum who escalate it to a human who may or may not be able to deal with the situation.

This is how one of the most wealthy companies in the world treats it customers. It is truly pathetic.

Apple redesigns wireless AirPower charger to be world's smallest, thinnest, lightest, cheapest, invisible... OK, it doesn't exist anymore

Union officials campaign against jobs?

Yeah. Happens every day. Union officials campaigning against new jobs in their area.

The trick is to work out what bribes the union officials want and to keep them sweet.

Remember that amazing video of the whale leaping out the gym floor and splashing down? Yeah, it was BS

Magic Leap

Magic Leap seems to be a modern day version of the South Sea Bubble.

It's a pity that, 300 years later, these whizz-bang sure fire winners are still suckering investors.

Alphabet and the others should have invested their money more wisely. In outfits with actual products.

J. R. Harley, shouldn't you stick with fly fishing, instead of trolling?

Mattmattic

Or he obtained her name and used online records to deduce her address.

Mattmattic

There was a similar case here in the UK a while back. Someone from a foreign country decided to visit someone in London who he had an online beef with and stabbed him to death.

So when this happens in the US, a foreign perp may well get shot to death or at best, seriously wounded.

But there's no possible reason why the private ownership of guns might be a good idea, right?

Re: Hahahaha

That would be a safety issue, surely?

If you lose power due to a house fire, your remote device would not work, and you could be unable to escape from the fire?

Unless there is a safety feature to override the lock?

Mattmattic

The same thing happened several years ago with another Google product. An update failed to work, so they reverted to the previous version, only to find that there had been a corruption issue and the entire Google Blogger system failed.

Every blog on the entire system vanished for several days as they had to rebuild the Blogger system.

In the UK, we mean Chemist. My Chemist also calls me up to check on my medication.

Re: Repeat

The above response was a perfect example of TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome.

No matter what these poor folk are thinking or talking about, Trump keps on cropping up in their heads.

Google outage: Mention Trump.

What shall I eat for lunch: Mention Trump.

What time is it? Mention Trump.

It's tedious.
