Noooooo!!!!!!!
IT in the UK is doomed!!
As for "higher aluminium, cereal and crude oil (prices)" worryes me a little. What the hell are they putting in there beer.

Well done! The BBC made it out to be "Student discovers new dino" As if some school kid has.
El Reg as normal gives us the truth, that a PhD student (probably a world expert in sauropod vertebrae, as that is what his PhD is in) has found a new dino. Still interesting, and well done to him, but not so over the top.
Thank you.
was the fact that I was forever getting told off by my Mum. Not for hurting myself, but because I went through the knees of my trousers at lease once a month. Bring back those days!
My primary school accualy had a (Very small) wood in the playing fields. It is now closed off, through fear for the kids. No one ever died when I was there.
Why is it wrong for the police (Or CPS) to ask for files which they beleave are related to terror, or any crime, to be readable? I dont get why you people are complaining about this. If she is not guilty then the police are wrong. Happens all the time. That is why we have trials. If they are right, then they need the evidence. Why should she be alowed to hide anything from a legitamet investigation?
If you think its a rip off then dont buy it. Just shut up. The world dose not owe you free books. If you made a polite comment saying that you felt that they may have over priced it, then fine, otherwise, shut up. I do feal that It is overpriced and will therefor not be buying it, but I will be at the front of the que if it ever comes out in a book. Not because of the cost of an EBook, just that I wont spend more that a couple of pounds on one because I don't like reading from a screen, and dont like wasting money on somthing I know I probably wont read properly.
I realy hope someone dose pick it up and publish this book properly so that I can read it, whatever the price (I would expect to pay about £19.99 for the hardback, with explanitory maps, If there is anyone in publishing reading)
'What I do outside my home should be my business and only my business. It might be the police's business, too, if I'm doing something wrong, but it is most absolutely and utterly not my neighbour’s business'
If you are doing somthing wrong in my nabourhood it absolutely is my business. Its an attitude like that which is causing allot of crime. People get away with petty crime because its not reported. It used to be the case that you would get a clip round the ear from your neighbour (As a kid) if they caught you up to no good, which instilled in you a sense of morality. Now if you complain to someone about there kid you get "Its not your business what he’s doing. Who do you think you are? The police?"
I think it is a brilliant idea. Hell Id pays a subscription fee to have that! As for the rubbish about privacy, did you not read the article? The feeds are degraded to make that a non-issue. I dont know how it works, but I think it would be good if there was an email address so that if you spotted any minor crime, where no one is at risk, you could note the time and camera number (Or somthing) and email the police so that they could have a look at the tape at a later time, rather that the hundreds of crimes that must be missed because there is a finite amount of people who can be sat watching CCTV for the police.
I dont know If I can use one, I realy dont need one, but I want my boss to buy me one NOW! Imagin having one of those beside your desk, if only to anoy everyone in the office who thinks there laptop is the mutts.
The only failing I can see is that academics acroos the world will be the first to have them, sat in there offices. As anyone who has been in a computing or engineering dept at ani Uni will tell you, this is not exactly a clutter free space. I bet we see a few frying themself's because they have no ventalation under two feet of paper and books that will be stacked on them.
Except for price. "if you just change the port settings etc" No I wont! XP has never needed me to do this. I could if I needed to, but I dont. When Im at home, playing a game, I just want to put it in the drive, let it run and play the game. Not F about with ports etc. Face it Fanbois, Mac OSX has problems.

I want my post delivered like that! Much more fun that the postie coming to the door, and im sure he wouldn’t mind swapping his bike for a Hercules. That is a good point though, in, for example, Oz, where there is a flying postal service. Add a few of these to a drone, and outlying ranches could get post more often, and at allot less cost.
Also, I can bet "other government departments" are looking at this, not just for those "passport etc drops" but imagine the possibility of dropping a Mic/transmitter discised as a rock in to the gardens of an enemies governmental buildings, or in to the middle of a camp or barracks.
Am I the only one that can see hundreds of open source developers wetting themselvs in anger over two things:
1) The idea that "there code", as they seem to see it, bught be used for death tech, probably without access.
2) The idea that open source code could ever have and malwere in it, because as we all know open sorce is 100% secure and to code open sorce you have to be chosen by the pure light of goodness, so are 100% honest.
If they do use any Open sorce, I can see the geeks outside the pentegon now, demanding access to all the code.
I see it as being like paying Car tax. You pay to use the road, up to the speed limet. Do you then complaine that there is not enough road at rush hour, as you cant get to the spped limet because of to may cars? Some people do, but not most. As for speed reduction its like congestion charge (But not as unfair). An attempt to limet unfair usage.
And for those people who complain "why should high bandwith users get hert" Well, Its not. If you download video from the net, or play games, then no problem with most companys, but the probalme comes when using P2P. Its a bit like you pay your car tax, so should be able to park wherever you like, blocking roads etc, just for your convinence, so you dont have to walk as far to your front door or somthing. I am sure there are some people who use P2P legaly, but also I can bet that 99% dont. If it was just the odd Linex distro, then I am sure it would be fine, but its not. Its the millions of people using P2P for music and films, all day every day. And dont tell me "but they told me it was unlimited" You know full well that it there is a fair usage policy, and exactly what they mean. You must have known that when buying the line, if not you are either thick or lieing. Ive knowne it with every line Ive had.
Also, cant be botherd to check my spelling. Its late.
Whilst I agree with the Merc SL & Aston being unlikley Minicabs, I can see Mabachs and Bentlys being used by upmarket hotels and airlines for Heathrow transfers. There are lots of companys that use Bentlys (esp wedding to honeymoon ariport stuff). TfL need to stop moaning, plug the loophole, and get on with it, but not whilst taxing minicab ferms for being upmarket. That or do the right thing, and scrap the whole system.
"While we've come a long way with programming languages, the type of thinking needed to be a good programmer hasn't changed substantially."
I agree. I have met a few people who have looked at a bit of code and said "I could do that it looks easy" But so few people can drop the human habit of making asumptions and jumps in logic. I think it will be a long time befor most people can get the head round how littraly computors "think". That and even though languages have got easyer, they are still not easy.
That as long as defence contracts are done on the basis of "We are all paying so should all have companys in on it" It wont work. I feel that we need to stop messing about with all this protectionism, but then the French will never do that (Look at the problems with Unibet).
Also, saying "the US make better stuff" is just silly. Yes, the Typhoon was designed to fight a war thas over, but by all accounts it is as good as the F22 Raptor (Including the only pilot who has flown both).
Na. After the bad press they were having, Apple have probably just entered the El Reg preference scheme. Give it a little while and we will be seeing articles titled "Apple make the greatest products ever - even kitchen appliances, which the dont make. They are that good." and "Job's elevated to level of Demi God, How could this travesty happen. He’s better than that."
