Re: Charities are a fraud

Right there with you. I do a normal job but i also volunteer at a local charity for kids. I get paid £0 and in fact sometimes put money in to the kitty so that the kids get a decent meal. The wife works there and gets paid £9 an hour. Even the lady running the charity doesn't take home much in the way of pay.

Maybe stop looking at the big charities and help the small local ones that actually make a difference?

BigSLitleP

Objectively, you're kinda right. I think it's more the algorithm is very aggressive about it. I watched a video on a particular stupid british white supremacist that has quite a large following. The next video it showed me was a Polish video of one of their far right political parties, saying that muslims needed to be kicked out of the country because white Polish were fighting for their identity.

That's a big leap and I personally (with absolutely no evidence apart from one anecdote!) think that may be the issue.

Re: Alt Right is PC for Rascist, lets call them racist to be clear

"It's happened with Brexit, ie those that voted leave are automatically assumed old, white, stupid racists, not libertarians like say, Terry Christian. "

When polled, the majority of Brexit voters were White OAPs with poor educational backgrounds. I'm not going to bandy about "racist", that's a lot harder to prove and doesn't add anything to the conversation. From my point of view, libertarianism is one of the dumbest things to come about in recent years. The fact that you don't understand climate change puts you quite squarely in the demographic for all the above.

I just love your accent – please, have a new password

BigSLitleP

Not just an expired password

So while helping out on a service desk, a gent called up saying he was locked out of his account. I ran through a few verifications to make sure he was who he said he was. I took a look at his account and noticed the account hadn't locked out, it had expired. That was standard practice for time limited contractors, which this fellow was. Before activating, standard practice was to contact their manager to get a new expiry date.

I called the guys manager and got told not to activate the account. The guys contract had come to an end and we weren't renewing it. The manager asked if i could "be a good chap and let him know". This was an internal service desk and I'd been with the company for quite some time. I was no mere hell desk monkey so I drew on my years of experience at the company and gave the HR approved response of "How about grow a backbone and tell him yourself?".

The manager got put on my list of "low priority response".

Re: Looks like el Reg is being as disingenuous as the Biased Broadcasting Corporation

Remember that bit when i said "Brexiteer Obfuscation"......

A non-binding referendum is just that. Non-binding. There is nothing saying the referendum has to be listened to or followed or even done again. We have general elections because people change their minds. It seems (note: seems. There is no absolute proof at the moment) that people have changed their minds. Another referendum is required, or a general election.

You can't just say "right, i want a no-confidence vote". You actually have to organise people, talk it through, make sure you have the numbers or else you are just shooting yourself in the foot. These things take time, hence BoJo rushing things.

I don't know if you've read the article you posted, but those are probable stats not definite. Strangely enough, when an MP votes it is in private. Just like everyone else. There is no way to know how they voted.

So as i said, "Brexiteer Obfuscation". It could be called Trumpism. It's that schoolyard bully that tries to yell at everyone and talks utter bull$hit until people just walk off. Then they claim victory because no one can be arsed to talk to them anymore.....

BigSLitleP

Re: Looks like el Reg is being as disingenuous as the Biased Broadcasting Corporation

This nonsense again. Let me get my bingo card out.....

"Will of the people" - Not according to all the recent polls, but whatevs - Check

"Not an extraordinary precedent" - longest prorogation in history, but whatevs - Check

"Occur in the next few days that couldn't....." blah blah blah - I dunno, a no confidence vote? But whatevs - check

"...of a parliment that voted 74% in favour of Remain" - no such stats available, but whatevs - check

This definitely fills a lot of my "Brexiteer Obfuscation" bingo card, I just need "Brexit means Brexit" and i'll be able to call house! What's my prize?

Re: About Time

https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/environmentalaccounts/articles/ukenergyhowmuchwhattypeandwherefrom/2016-08-15

Sorry, but your figures are grossly misleading. We are a net importer of electricity and we get 47% of our gas from pipelines in the EU. If you are going to try to bluff your way through something, make sure you are not talking to someone who:

A) Is capable of using Google

B) Has worked for many utility companies in the UK

I never said they would cut us off, i said prices would go up. That's not because they are blackmailing us, it's because of trade tariffs. It's not difficult maths or over complicated economic theory we are talking here.

You constantly obfuscate and pull up very dubious sources to act as a smoke screen for your anti-EU stance. You are Jacob Rees-Mogg and i claim my £5

BigSLitleP

Re: So, to sum up. . .

As has been said, many many times.....

1) Brexit campaign full of lies, referendum should be re-run

2) People change there minds, seems like the British people have, referendum should be re-run

3) BoJo is now trying to bully his way through with a minority government

4) No deal was not what most brexiteers voted for and does not have a majority backing

I could go on all day. There are hundreds of reasons to stop this shit show. If we had left with a deal I would be bitter but it's what people voted for. No sane person wants a no-deal scenario.

BigSLitleP

I am. I'm stopping idiots like you from sending the UK in to the shitter. I'd call that positive and productive. Giving up isn't very British......

BigSLitleP

Re: Hmm

A referendum that has already been shown to based on lies?

A general election that the Conservatives didn't win, they had to bung £10 Billion to the DUP?

A European election where more Pro-EU candidates were voted for than Anti-EU candidates?

Where recent polls show that even less than 50% of Brexiteers believe that proroguing is a good idea?

Where recent polls show that if run again, the referendum would come out for Remaining?

Boris Johnson is one of those that has been playing games, found to be a liar and a cheat. We'll have a general election before Brexit day, that'll be the end of it.

BigSLitleP

Re: About Time

"Because they run a very large trade surplus with the UK, large parts of which would be threatened if they insisted on keeping those tariffs?"

On what planet? You do realise we get most of our electricity and gas from Europe? Quite a lot of our food too, because we are not self-sufficient. We sell them crap but we buy actually needed goods. If we leave without a deal, the price of those will go up and people will suffer. If we go elsewhere for them, the price will be even higher and people will suffer more. The only advantage we have is the financial services in London. Other than that, we have no leverage.

Brexiteers need to look at quality, rather than quantity, of arguments for and against. There is no good outcome from Brexit for the majority of people in the UK.

BigSLitleP

Re: So, to sum up. . .

BigSLitleP

Re: About Time

I'm sorry, you are obviously not an academic or qualified on this subject. If you read a paper written by someone who is openly biased for or against something, all you will find out is that they are openly biased for or against something. The particular study you listed has been pulled apart by everyone, and i do mean everyone. It's a literal joke in the economic world.

I've read it. It is embarrassing. You made the mistake of thinking no one would read it. You were wrong. You may as well have put up a study showing the earth is flat.

BigSLitleP

Re: About Time

Also.....

That study has already be debunked. It's as if people do read them!

I've given you an upvote for being a sensible person. You're right, most people don't (and shouldn't) care about the things i've listed. They just tend to make people start shouting "SJW!" from the roof tops.

I guess i just don't see the problem, which ironically is the same answer I get for most of the causes i've listed from people that drive me up the wall. When asked for a free graphics tool, I always answer "try gimp" and very few people have gone "what did you just say!?", they normally say "What's that and how much does it cost?". If more people threw a strop about it, i'd be more inclined to back the name change. At least it's just a fork.

BigSLitleP

Look, i'm about as PC as they come. Left wing, environmentalist, feminist. (Yes i know this is El Reg, yes i know I'm painting a target on my back)

This is nonsense. How many people nowadays know the word gimp? If it was called "FAG" (Free Advanced Graphical tool) or "NAZI" (..........I can't come up with an acronym, feel free to start a competition below!) then I could understand it. Even i get sick of people's touchiness.

It has nothing to do with physiology, it's do with expectations from birth. Many studies have shown that boys and girls will play everything equally until about 4-5 years of age. After that, the kids start to try to fit in with the normal boy/girl divides..... unless their parents don't force it.

If you take a girl and don't tell her "pink is for girls, blue is for boys" then she is more likely to go in to a male oriented profession. There is a shit-ton of psychological studies showing that boy/girl pigeon holing happens due to parental influence, not physiology.
