Sharp intros 5in ARM-based netbook

Psion 5 replacement

I still use my Psion 5, even though I'd kill for WiFi, colour screen, USB etc....

BUT

It's the software that keeps me using it - the diary, phone manager, a task manager I have, plus a few other programs that just don't have an equal on any other machine I've owned.

Oh, and the 20hr+ battery life off a pair of AA batteries takes some beating.

iPhone no use in Australia though

The council in Brisbane has an MMS hotline where you can send a picture message to them if you see anything the council needs to fix when you're out and about.

That's the iPhone Bug**ed then....

Hotmail users bitch and moan about new interface

David Shea
Stop

To those keeping a hotmail account because of MSN

It doesn't require a hotmail account - or at least it hasn't so far. Been using it with my non-MS email account for years.

PC World, Currys staff to be dumped in DSGi rescue plan?

@peter

Funny enough exactly the same thing happened to me.

Returned a laptop for repair - weekly conflicting reports about where it was (gone to the manufacturer, still in shop etc...) until I went in and pointed out that after 28 days I was entitled to a replacement.

Went to shelf, selected most expensive laptop there, walked out of store with said laptop and replacement warranty.

3 weeks later, phone call saying my (original) laptop was repaired. Went back to store, walked out of store with said laptop.

PC World story II

Knew another guy who got hold of the name of the manager at a PC world store, then walked in on the weekend when said manager wasn't there.

"Mr x told me I could pick up my PC, it's the one over there" to innocent young Saturday shop worker.

"I don't know if I can let you have that without authorisation"

"Well, ring Mr x at home then"

"oh, can't do that. Emmm... Well, I'm sure it will be ok"

Rich v Poor religons

Isn't the Catholic church one of the richest organisations in the world?

Does that mean it's in sin, as opposed, to say the less-worldly-goods Hare Krishnas?

Yes please, I'll take one to go...

There's plenty of straw-bale houses out here in Australia. Easy to build, termite resistant (and that's a big plus out here) and great insulating properties (anyone who's lived in a Queenslander over the winter will know all about why insulation should be considered when building a house.)

Personally I'd love to live in a place like that - with a little solar power for the essentials (my Macbook) and a weekly trek to the nearest internet cafe (probably Glasgow)

Apple's Time Capsule: is its HDD really 'server grade'?

@greg

Or even the bloke down the road with an open WiFi connection and a time capsule - physical backups in multiple locations.

In fact, thinking about it, I might just set one up myself and see what gets left on it. One way to build up your p0rn collection.

@ Mark Daniels

Still looking for a replacement for my Psion 5 too - though I don't use it much anymore, I still have never found anything that beats the software or OS on the Psion - especially the diary. Oh and that keyboard...

Psion 5, bigger/colour screen, USB, wireless. Am I asking for too much?

SJ, because my wife goes all weak at the knees when watching the MacBook Air ads.

Pre-ordered beer? Yes please

Well, I for one would be happy to let my internet fridge order beer, especially if it was paid by a direct debit from Jeremy Clarkson's account.

Aussie gov anti-porn filter 'useless', says teen

David Shea

@ Filter - and for a "PC"?!

Well, most of the schools over here (Australia) use Macs. Maybe they assume that Mac users either

1. Don't get the hang of the internet so can't work out how to surf for porn.

2. Use Safari, so most of the sites crash before you get to see anything naughty.
