a stand-up also provides visibility to anyone that cares - the C-level management, project managers (eugh), whoever is interested, can drop in on a stand-up and be amazed at how well the team works together (done right). It's not uncommon for the next thing the team, or smaller cohesive groups, end up doing is to scribble on whiteboards to evolve a design or create a prototype

+1 for the art reference. I've always believed that software engineering is actually art - there isn't one set of books that say "do it like this and you'll be golden" (like in say, building architecture). Collectively, software books / practices are basically telling us the answer to "how should I do this?" is "it depends"

My Gmail has a dot in the local part. On several occasions in the past I've received emails that were clearly intended for someone else. If I remember rightly their Gmail address was the same as mine without dots.
