"First off, WTF is it with your obsessions with wanting to marry animals. It's a ridiculous argument. "
Not so, i would quite gladly marry my cat before I would marry some people ;-)
And don't say - that's bestiality ! Sex is not a compulsory component of marriage. I know plenty of married couples that don't have sexual relations.
"me to crack it open and convert it to internal drive (not sure I could crack open a WD drive case"
Only if you want to connect via usb not sata. The last time I cracked the case open on a WD drive to do that - it had an extended logic board that included the usb socket - no sata connector to be seen.
The case never quite fitted back together properly either after opening it, but a little dab of superglue soon fixed it.
You would be surprised to know how bigoted gays can be when they hold the power.
Once the head of the Nursing faculty at a local university got appointed she proceeded to stack the faculty with gay-only lecturers. It was quite an eye-opener to observe the blatant discrimination against males and the grooming of any prospective sexual partners by the faculty staff.
It is not just straights who abuse their power when they hold it. It would have been nice to have seen them practice what they preach (non-discrimination and equal rights for all), but sadly absolute power corrupts absolutely and lofty ideals are soon jettisoned when personal gain is at stake.
"I think Australian voting forms have a "None of the above" option on them. "
You are probably confusing this with the "option" of an informal vote.
The voter just scribbles "Fuck the lot of you!" on the form and deposits it in the ballot box.
Simple errors in how the ballot is marked by the voter also count as informal votes.
so yes ,voting is compulsory but formal voting is not compulsory.
"That kind of teaching is becoming less and less acceptable, and its demise can only be considered a good thing..." if that is the case ,why are literacy and numeracy standards in general decline ?
Teaching is not something that can be taught. Good teachers are rare (and born - not made).
Unfortunately, anyone who has ever been to a school is well aware of this.
How many outstanding teachers can you remember from your childhood ?
Smart kids are easy to teach (they do it by themselves). The teacher naturally takes the credit for any smart kids in the class and we get a positive feedback situation where they get more and more attention to the detriment of the also-rans.
"People like you are an embarrassment to theologians, do you know that? "
i think theologians can embarrass themselves without his help :-)
"It's like Lloyd Blankfein discovering that an Indian peasant who keeps a gold bar under his bed thinks he knows all there is to know about banking." Beautifully put ! Have an upvote .
"That's 'El Reg' though eh? No matter what the topic - Bitcoins, Boeings or whatever - somebody always seems to pop up who has a handle on it!"
Exactly right ! It also makes a nice change from pathetic bickering you see on some other forums.
If you don't know anything when you start reading, you certainly do when you have finished.

"you'd be ****ed off if the display of fruit was hidden and you'd have to type on an unrelated the name of the fruit that you'd like without knowing what is available or sometimes even what the name might actually be. It's not a great example,"
Oh yes it is - that is exactly the problem I had when I got to the desktop on a win8 machine. I had absolutely no clue what progs were available or what they might be called. I have win8.1.1 and I like it with classic shell. I am in a rural location with an expensive 3g home internet service and I really don't appreciate having Modern apps downloading data constantly in the background, all modern apps have been uninstalled. As long as I keep the mouse away from the bottom right corner of the screen it is very fast and functional OS.
Most office folk still use desktops - despite the constant intrusion of their personal mobile phones into the work environment. I see see very few offices with workers doing their day to day duties on tablets and phones.
As you are being pedantic, I suppose you use your laptop on your lap rather than a desk in your contracting duties. do you have your own custom written laptop OS as well ?
"they would never tolerate such a response from real world service providers, eg banks"
never really thought of a bank as a service provider, much less one I could tell what to do !
Most people barely tolerate them, and since it is impossible to be paid without them, tolerate them we must.
"Dude, I guess you're just too old." Dead giveaway of da Yoof .
"Oh, and don't forget that the plural of anedote isn't data."
And the plural of antidote isn't data. Either is the plural of anecdote.
As far as I know the only thing data is the plural of is datum.
Glad to hear you found a use for it.
"Only those who got in early fall into this category. You do realise this is a zero sum game, right? People can ONLY make a profit by dumping these onto someone else for a higher price than they paid (the so-called greater fool theory).
And when something like this happens, it's only the fools holding them...those who made 'a shitload of profit', as you put it, are long gone."
sort of like the share market then ?
"Or am I being victimised?"
you're being victimised :-) Not showing up here on a win8.1 machine but it is running Firefox with adblock , so that may be why.
I'm on wireless broadband here with an 8GB quota for the month. I just hope the update isn't another 3.6GB download when it finally arrives.
"whether you trust the (democratically elected) government which controls these organisations to act in the best public interest."
Best laugh I've had all day ! No government controls these organisations - when you operate above the law - you do as you please, and we all know what happens when you have absolute power.
I beg to differ , most Taiwanese and Phillipino English speakers have an American accent. Probably a few others too where the English is American due to their cultural domination. Even in the English colony of Australia the kids affect a bastardised American/Australian accent as a matter of course.
"But there is another more dangerous reason, a runaway board in the mountains has the energy to kill. Better to be secured tightly to the leg of a yoof!"
OK, but surfboards have a legrope to the surfers ankle for retrieving the board.
maybe velco soles on their boots and a matching area on the snowboard would give enough stability/traction without tearing a leg off in a fall ?
I have to agree, I never see the metro start page, all metro apps were uninstalled and classic shell (free) works wonders. I only wish i could disable the hot corners as I accidently activate them from time to time. I am not a big fan of the flat graphics but it's the fashion for now , so unless a third party hack can enable aero, I will put up with it.
"and those with access to information the public does not know " -are shitting their pants, because thanks to Mr Snowden, they{the public) soon will have access to that information.
yes, all whistleblowers are criminals, according to those criminals they blow the whistle on. As for running away from his actions - the man is not a complete fool - I certainly wouldn't be running back to the waiting arms of the slimeballs behind this mess.
