One good deed leads to a storm in an Exchange Server

dankell

Reminds me of the times ...

back in the late 90s when I was working in a small publishing department.

Every so often our mail server would go down because someone, normally advertising sales, had emailed a clients incoming artwork to the whole production team, rather than popping it on the server and sending a link out. Multiple copies, of, at the time, large artwork, quickly jammed up the servers. This being before email servers themselves referenced files being forwarded, rather than duplicated them.

Re: Maybe it needs a clunk tank

Last time the failure was due to lack of pressure from the head tank.

This time they pressurised the head tank with hydrogen but did state that that was a temporary solution.

You can definately see the second rocket flare and try and light.

A decade on, Apple and Google's 30% app store cut looks pretty cheesy

dankell

Back in the day, when I was looking at the iOS app store the 30% looked like a good deal

As an independent it provided me with a content delivery system, that reached all my potential customers, and I didn't need to worry about anything other than writing my App, knocking together a simple html only website for some promotion and a bank account.

And I would have avoided any upfront costs as it would all be paid for as the "cut" from my apps.

For me where it falls apart is that Apple have been crap at protecting developers from knock-offs and copycats, and some of the development restrictions are, shall we say opaque.

I can see why a large company like Epic, which have their own channels to deliver, bill, etc. should feel that the 30% is much less value.

Connected car data handover headache: There's no quick fix... and it's NOT just Land Rovers

Re: Good news!

The Dacia Sandero I just had as a courtesy car had quite a few previous bluetooth devices in it's history.

I didn't check whether the previous users synced their Contacts.

It was nice and easy to unpair when I returned the car.

Re: A back button

There's been one for a while.

If, say, you're in Mail and click on a link in an email you'll be popped over to Safari to read the link,

Top left of you iPhone will show you "<Mail" next to the Signal indicator. Tap that to return whence you came. Happens pretty much anywhere you are kicked from one app to another.

The headphone jack is only an annoyance for me as I can't charge the phone and jack the phone into the cars Audio. Battery Life - Please! And I'd appreciate the extra depth - I'm actually using a case for the first time on my 6 as it's too slim to be comfortable.
