Who needs the A-Team or MacGyver when there's a techie with an SCSI cable?

Things I learned from Y2K (pt 87): How to swap a mainframe for Microsoft Access

Made a killing

The accounts software company I worked for at the time sold their Y2K fix to their customers for a fortune; a few lines of shell script as I remember!

Sudo? More like Su-doh: There's a fun bug that gives restricted sudoers root access (if your config is non-standard)

Re: I suspect that most didn't even know it was an option

Update sudo of course, but I can't think of any real world scenarios where this specific configuration would be used.

Re: As a ex sys-admin....

As a current sys-admin, I deploy sudo for various teams across my Linux estates to great advantage.

Re: I suspect that most didn't even know it was an option

That sudo scenario would likely be to allow a user to run commands as another specific user, not allowing a user to run commands as any user except root.

This move by Dropbox will reduce users' files to tiers: Rarely, regularly accessed data now kept separate

Automatic tiering

Any half decent storage system already employs tiering where it will automatically move infrequently used data to slow storage like disk and frequently used data to fast storage like SSD.

Re: Just go Linux

I updated my laptop to from Windows 7 Windows 10 a couple of weeks back (you can still do it for free) and since then it hangs within 24 hours. It's an older gen i7 with 4GB RAM - should be fine. I tried contacting M$ Support but gave up, going to install Linux this weekend, prolly Fedora as I manage RHEL clone instances for work.

I used to prefer KDE years back, what desktop do people go for these days - Gnome? KDE? Other?

Microsoft points to a golden future where you can make Windows 10 your own

Whatever, if they get rid of mspaint I'm moving to Linux.

Hello 'WOS': Windows on Arm now has a price

Contractor rates going up!

Updating application code for new processors is not a hugely expensive task, it's just one that dev teams don't necessarily expect to have to do and possibly don't have the skills for - bring on the contractors!

Guess who's hiking their prices again? Come on, it's as easy as 123 Reg

Thanks for the tip - I'll take a look at easily too.

That's how much it hated its own existence, suicide by steps/pool.
