Dive gear: Sharm el Sheikh airport security didn't recognize a first stage.... i needed that kilo out of my checked in bag and had three in my carrry on, took them 5 divers smiling and saying "yes" to believe me.

Re: A real pizza

You get it there only because so many tourists order it. No Italian restaurant worthy of it's name in a non turistic area would offer such an aberration as a pizza with chips or with pineapple....

there are ecceptions. which as I said aren't worthy of their name.

The silence of the racks is deafening, production gear has gone dark – so which wire do we cut?

working at a smallish provider.

ssh'd into a server, big sun stuff 3500, 10000. connection lost.

call the DC, somebody answers, strange... but mainly why can i understand him?

A new tank was needed in the floor, to do it a drill was used, too deep.

Took 6 people the afternoon, the eveving and a good part of the night to repower everything up.

Still Good times

Almost got fired on my second day of work over emptying the bin of one of the firms bosses. My Tech dept Boss at the time had very "hard" words for me after being told to fire me immediately: "don't you ever do that again! Had to say this, let's go grab a coffee, and don't worry, he's an idiot" :)

Re: Is this just an English thing ?

'a person' 'his profession'

Not an expert in any form, i am in IT not languages, and english isn't my first...

what with "her profession' ?

Seriously curious, does it generalize with masculine?

Thanks.

Anyway yes, I already have my fireproof coat on.

Re: been there...

ah, in the end I missed the anoymous flag... oh well not many know that nickname.

been there...

ah, been there, done that, got no tshirt.. but a cease and desist.

Moved from one company to the direct competitor (nothing in the contract saying i couldn't), had three months notice, as some other colleagues who just by chance left at the same time. Everything good, even got a raise offered and better conditions on the last day. As soon as we started the new job some "tech" found the smoking gun, we had downloaded all company data from the cloud storage... yep, it was synced to the laptops, because why bother segregating information, in fact it wasn't donwloaded but the sync tool had to get the list of files... whatever, it took them 5 months and 2 other more or less identical letters to stop bothering us. In the end for whatever reason (like no proof at all) they stopped... Still cost me a good portion nerves and 800€.

anonymous because people carry grudges for a long time and i don't want this to start again.

I don't have to save my work, it's in The Cloud. But Microsoft really must fix this files issue

Re: Google Docs

Lost a customer of GSuite once because "the Admin interface is too easy, it can't possibly be safe".

Firm fat-fingered G Suite and deleted its data, so it escalated its support ticket to a lawsuit

Re: What use is Google's statement about backups?

There are backups. If you delete mails or drive files you have 25 days to recover them. if you delete a user account you have 20 days. Drive files which have been edited have some 100 versions with them.

Deleting an entire account has to be done on purpose (see post below).

fozzy73

This wasn't a "fat-fingered" mistake.

to delete an entire GSuite account you first need to delete all user accounts, then go to a different page, click on "DELETE MY ACCOUNT", click on two or three boxes which say "ARE YOU REALLY SURE? THIS CAN'T BE UNDONE" and only then everything is gone.

Single user accounts can be recovered for 20 days after being deleted.

So no, this wasn't a "mistake".

Blame the admin, not Google.

Re: Not Me But...

Yep, and more often than not it would startup with something broken (in one shutdown-startup cycle we lost a switch, 3 HDDs and a fan).

Re: AS/400 UPS

Had a SUN E10K to run hot, read instructions, find filters need to be cleaned once a month or 3.. ask admin and get a "what filters?" response, obviously at that moment i had just volunteered to do the cleaning.

So we shutdown the thing as it had been running for over a year and we were scared of moving the filters and have everything sucked up, clean filters, turn back on.

Resulted in 3 HDDs, a switch and two of the fans (if i remember right) not getting back online, but redundancies worked pretty well at the time.

funny times.

Re: You should have been sacked

That's probably why the Admin was so pissed at him, maybe something more happened in the background than the OP knows...
